I am size 40E and need a decent sports bra. My only other option is to bind myself every time I go to the gym to keep them still!!!!
Thanks in advance

Calley,
Whilst I am not a woman I am a member of a fair number of running groups and the general consensus of opinion is that most people that I know prefer "Shock Absorber bras"“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -

I'd also recommend Shock Absorber for the support (or compression) they offer. I would also suggest looking on the Figtree website as they tend to have a few underware sportswear brands and often have good discounts.0

You might need to wear two together.
I used to do middle distance running and one was never enough! I wore a bra like type affair underneath (proper sports bra) and then a bandeau style sports bra on top.
Annoying having to wear two, but it did work to 'control' things.0 -
I'm a similar size to you, smaller chest but bigger cup. (36FF but I usually have a G in M&S)
I tried shock absorber bras and couldn't get on with them.
M&S do a range of sports bras:

I prefer underwired as it seems to keep me 'in' better and also like the cross-over backs as they seem to give more support.
Why not take a walk into M&S or even Debenhams (they also stock
Shock Absorber brand) and see which you prefer.
It's really a personal choice - which fits you best and which you find most comfortable and which does the job.0 -

I have already been told that by my partner about wearing two. I have in the past worn a normal bra under a sports bra and still is a lot of movement. I don't run. As not built for running. But I am going to the gym and doing classes etc. So would be nice to not have them bouncing all over the place.

Thanks for that looks like a trip to a bigger town. Mind you kills two birds with one stone. As want to see if a certain homeless guy still there. He said before xmas he had fingers crossed somewhere to go. And I am hoping that he has.

I wear Panache and Freya sports bras (not at the same time!).
Have you been fitted at somewhere decent (Bravissimo/ Rigby and Peller, definitely not M&S)? Many of us wear too big a back and too small a cup, hence not getting the support the bra is designed to give. A 40 back suggests a size 20 dress size, if you're not I'd definitely get fitted.
Good luck at the gym!0 -

You need to wear two sports bras to get the support not a normal bra and a sports bar. I found the best combination was something like this underneath:
Sport bra (with cups): linky
and this on top (bandeau style): Link
No idea if the brands in the links are any good I am just using the link for the pictures.0
