Three Downgrade Queries

I'm currently on a 24 month contract with Three. I pay £52 a month for my iPhone 6S 64gb (I know - expensive!)
My minimum term ends on the 9th of May and my account states that I can upgrade on the 2nd of April.
However I don't want to 'up'grade as I am happy with my phone as it is and if I do decide to get a new one in the future I would buy it outright anyway. I would like to change to one of Three's sim only offers (around £15 a month)
So when would I be eligible to do this? I am unsure if the 2nd of April would be date to do this as it's not really an upgrade - it's a downgrade!
If anyone has any information regarding this please let me know.
Thank you!

Ring up on the 9th of April and tell them you want to leave to get a better deal, ask for your PAC and they’ll offer you retention deals.
Do a bit of research first as to what’s around so you can quote some pricing, Plusnet has some well priced offers if you’re looking for around the 3-4GB of data. Look at what Three are offering new customers if you want more data, I think one their recent offers is around £14 for 12GB of data.
If you use hotspot or want to have the free roaming countries outside the EU, make sure they offer an advanced plan, they can be sneaky and offer an essential plan if you’re not careful.====0
