I've had my Miele cylinder cleaner for almost 10 years now and it's as good as the day I bought it. I used to clean for an old lady who had one and I was so impressed by it compared to the horrible upright Sebo's and Electrolux's my family had growing up, that I didn't hesitate to purchase one. Admittedly it's not a cat and dog, but now I have 2 cats- I'd definitely consider getting one of those next time (if it ever needs replacing).

I always buy the Miele hoover bags, occasionally come up trumps in the charity shop really cheap, but best price I've found is in Argos (used to be about £9 a box, goodness knows why the price has now almost doubled, won't be paying those prices!!!!) You get a new filter in every box and there's enough spare that you can cut a second one to fit.

I have a mix of wooden floors, lino and carpet and it performs brilliantly on all of them - you just need to adjust the settings. I mainly keep mine on the quiet setting to reduce noise, but I have a medical condition that makes me sensitive to noise. If I turn the suction up to max it is really hard work on carpet, but boy does it get the job done. You can flip a switch on the head to change between hard floor and carpet on mine, no need to buy anything extra. It also has a host of attachments which are all regularly used.

The only minor issue I've ever had was the spring coming out of place, that holds the tool compartment closed. I managed to repair it myself with a little effort, it was slightly tricky.

I think the vacuum cost me around £100 10 years ago, in an Argos sale and I paid for it in Argos vouchers, so nil true cost. I don't consider 2 or 3 boxes of bags to be much of an expense each year. Since, I haven't hesitated to spend the money on a Miele washer/dryer and dishwasher and they are impressive too.

I know this is an old thread but I've just purchased the C3, wished I'd seen this thread first. It's almost impossible to use on carpet, even on the lower settings.
OP, did you return yours? Mine is going back.

I had the same problem with mine and I purchased a cat and dog turbo brush and it great now, best vacuum I have ever had. They are not cheap I got mine from Ebay it was about £30.
  • I had exactly the same problem with my upright Dyson, when I had a new carpet fitted. It just won't move at all! I can only drag it backwards.

The carpet shop said it was the type of backing on the carpet and the deep pile. Some carpets have a woven hessian back, which means air can be sucked through and the cleaner will move. Some carpets have a solid glued back, which means when the vacuum cleaner sucks, it gets stuck in the deep pile as there's no air flow. (The Dyson works fine on my shorter pile carpets)

I've now got a G-Tech Air ram which will work on the deep pile carpet. Does that mean it's not as powerful I wonder? :o

I kept mine, but on carpet I only use the turbo brush. I would have sent it back but at the time, I couldn’t find another cylinder vacuum that I liked. I wouldn’t buy anything else from Miele though!

It is a “problem” with the Miele C3, it makes cleaning my rugs a bit difficult - I had to buy that non-slip matting to put underneath.

I don’t mind so much though as half of our flat is hardwood floors and the bedrooms don’t get hoovered very often (it’s a job I hate so it’s the most neglected chore lol) so I don’t mind too much since the suction takes up my long hair from the carpets & no other brand comes close lol!

  • I have a problem with my new bedroom carpet too. My dyson will not move and it has a glue back to the carpet. The shop that sold me the carpet says they have no case to answer but if it can’t be hoovered then doesn’t it make the carpet unfit for purpose?

Is your carpet doing its job as a carpet?

As in a bit of fabric covering the floor?

Just because your vacuum is either too powerful ( cant see it if under 5 years old) or you don't know how to use it, that doesn't make a carpet unfit for purpose
