BT Con tract.

I came on MSE 2016 and researched Phone, Broad band and TV deals, I found a good one from BT.
I signed a contract £61.99 a month 2 years. Free local calls Free sports caller display speed..etc . It was better than the other offers for what I wanted.
April 17 the price rose,
August 17 the price rose.
the free caller display is now £1.75 from October 17.
I am currently paying £73.24 until November 2018, unless they just hike the price again.
I didn't understand when I signed up that the price could be put up, I thought a contract was a deal where both sides agree a term and stick to it.
BT have said I was notified so they can break the contract.
I did know they could. Apparently at the point of sale I was told....
I feel sure if I was told that the price wasn't carved in stone for 2 years I would have had a pause, after all it is not such a good deal then is it?
What is the point of the contract, there doesn't seem to be an upside for me.
I don't seem to have the same clause, I asked how much notification I need to give them to leave, they said I can leave if I pay £300.
They said they'd sent me an email notification in November and at that point I could have left them.
I checked, I didn't, I told them the git on the customer service , he said ''tough'', we sent it ,our computer says so............. you can go to the ombudsman , but they'll side with us, your screwed ha ha!
The bloke from Newcastle then said ''I could have just said at the beginning , tough, but I have been very polite listening to you moan for 10 minutes, so i'm really quite nice''
I asked what help he could offer, he said none and he had other callers waiting.
I think so many customers with contracts have been caught out like me the customer service people just don't want to hear the same tale for the 100th time that day.
I believe they use their customers trust and lack of understanding of the complicated wording to get away with these sneaky price hikes.
Is a BT contract worth the paper it's written on...... i'd say no.
I won't get caught again , I hope any new customers will read this and think twice or be vigilant and check most months on their online accounts.....
I just don't do that, this is a lesson for me too.
the contracts I have with the gas and electric don't change...... just thought it was the same sort of contract.

I thought a contract was a deal where both sides agree a term and stick to it.>
What you agreed was including the term we have the right to raise prices in the contract term.
<<ΔWe may change any prices and terms during your contract. If this affects you, we'll tell you about important changes in advance, and you'll be able to end your contract without any fees.>>
Thats a fairly common ISP contract not just BT .0 -
As is said above, BT gave you the opportunity to cancel the contract and go elsewhere but you decided to stay with them.
On the matter of your deal; I don't know why you agreed the £61.99 a month deal. I'm currently on unlimited Fibre with BT and get a usual 75Mbps speed, plus all the BT Sports Channels and caller display for £35.99 per month, and I've seen this deal advertised slightly cheaper than I pay in the last month or so. But I don't have the unlimited calls option as I rarely if ever use the landline."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

This is the third or fourth thread you've posted this in and each time the story seems to get embellished.
And I'm sorry but the above conversation did not take place.0
