Kerbside Delivery

I'll be doing some refurb on a property over the coming months requiring the delivery of some large / heavy items.

Last night I had to cancel an order of vinyl flooring when I found out the retailer's courier only delivered to the kerb. Not an option for me as the property is third floor with no lift and I'm on my own.

Could I therefore pick people's brains as to which companies will actually deliver to the property (even if for an extra charge) and which are the notable exceptions?

I would suggest John Lewis they do a price match.

Alternatively, get the fitter to collect, supply and install your vinyl.

I phoned Co-op Electrical today who said they always deliver their white goods into the property, and seemed surprised when I said some retailers only offer kerbside delivery.

    co op T&C's

"11.8 If due to any circumstances beyond our reasonable control we are unable to deliver the Products ordered because to do so would be unsafe or it is not physically possible, for example because the Product is too large to fit through the doorways in your home or the Product is too heavy to be carried upstairs and there is no lift then we will not deliver the Product and we reserve the right to charge you the full cost of delivery. Please see clause 11.7 above for an indication of the full cost of delivery for different items."

they may not be as good as you think...

I would use John Lewis every time. Have had a fridge freezer and a washing machine from them, they are 2 man deliveries and have carried them up to the second floor with no problems.

Yes, John Lewis all the way. Not only do you get a good product, excellent customer services and aftercare but the delivery is second to none.

I had new beds - taken to each bedroom, unpacked, packing taken away and even offers of help in re-arranging other furniture (wardrobes already in situ) if it would help.

you will generally find most (all) building materials are a kerbside drop.
White goods are a different matter

I have a similar problem with ordering a replacement radiator. I’m 5’2”, there’s no way I can move it on my own, and my plumber isn’t going to hang around waiting for a delivery when there’s no guarantee that it will arrive at a set time. There is literally no one I know who can help - it isn’t that kind of neighbourhood and everybody is out at work. I can’t even get a ‘handyperson’ in to help as I don’t know what time it will arrive. It only needs to get into the hallway for goodness sake. There’s a difference between this and a huge pallet-full of stuff delivered to builders - it’s no heavier than white goods. How do people deal with this? It simply isn’t a system designed for ordinary people, who do actually sometimes have to order one off purchases. Thanks in advance for any advice!
