KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I have recently tried this, it is harder than I thought! Need more motivation to cut out the non essentials0

I have been a busy bee but enjoyed all of it. Did the allotment, 4th hoeing during the last 2 weeks and seeing a great difference. Earth was compacted in the fruit half and I spread more buckwheat hulls last week, already it helps the hoe to slide. All raised beds done and for the first time, I have dealt with the many paths through and around my plot with a non-organic spray. Something had to give and I decided that it had to be this way of dealing with the many weeds around. Up to now I was digging out and hoeing but it has become too difficult
Then a lovely windy cycle ride and now lunch is cooling. It has been a lovely stressless morning. This afternoon, after pondering, I am going to actually write down how I am going to deal with my wardrobe. No point me going up and just dealing randomly. I need order eg allotment: spring/autumn, summer cycling: spring/autumn/summer/winter ss/ls layers and can add vest home lounging: couple of casual sets to open the door in and not feel embarrassed visiting: spring/autumn, winter, summer and that is what I propose for today. I will still have to do outerwear and holiday wear0 -
Someone (I think it might have been Grey Queen) uses the analogy of Barbie dolls to work out what you need in the way of clothes ie work Barbie, weekend Barbie, sporty Barbie etc. I found that quite helpfulIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Kondoed 2 hours in the garden before the rain came - long term job sorted and finished. OH out up a bird box that should have been LAST YEAR:mad: but its done now. Feel to need to sort through some stuff but I have enjoyed my last week off work before term starts again, just pottering around and dipping in and out of jobs! And now an afternoon drama on the radio.........might just go and sit in warm conservatory that has been cleared of its winter dumpings and listen to the radio;):D
Dinner tonight is mix match of frozen left overs which are defrosting nicely so no food prep:T Finally feeling chilled and its almost time to wind up again to go back to work:o hey ho!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I love the Barbie idea of GQ's, although I bear no resemblance to the doll, I'm glad to say! While various elements cross over, for example boots and T-shirts may be both 'smart casual' Barbie and 'work' Barbie, they are paired with different things. I've always got a really clear idea in my head of what will go together for a particular category.
I think Kondoing my clothes has been one of the best things I did, I still have far too many but it's so much easier to put an outfit together, no more dithering in front of the wardrobe wondering what to wear. I often end up wearing the same outfit again and again. Nobody has ever commented, and it means I'm always wearing something I'm happy with, but it's taken a change of mindset on my part.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Just one souffle dish taken to CS today as an out for the in of small pyrex casserole and lid last week. I have earmarked a set of 6 plain white pasta bowls to go as we never seem to use them anymore.
In an attempt to reduce even further the ready made GF baked goods that I buy I am seriously considering spending a wee chunk of dosh on a waffle maker, but would need to find a few things to go in order to make space for it, have a small kitchen and even the overflow cupboards in the utility are well used, (the supplies for the wild birds take up a whole floor cupboard). The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Managed to do a tip run after all. My shoulders are much better, but my knee is playing up. The joys of getting older.....:rotfl:
I have a pile of ornaments and bric a brac sat on the dining room table. Just having a cuppa then I will wrap them up and pop them in the car ready for the next trip.....probably next week now.
Making steady progress.
Made a space at the top of the cellar steps for all my cleaning materials and some small kitchen appliances. Next week I will go through all the kitchen cupboards again and then I can deep clean the kitchen.
Re clothes. I have seriously edited mine but I could still go further, probably will have another go when summer finally arrives and when I hopefully drop a dress size.
I have organised mine so that what I shall be wearing over the summer, say until roughly the end of September, is easy to hand and I have put all the winter coats, boots, evening dresses etc in a spare wardrobe in the guest room.
I will wash all my knitwear, warm hats, scarves, gloves etc and pack them in vacuum bags in a few weeks....still wearing them at the moment.:rotfl: Nice and sunny here today but still nippy.0 -
Clothes. Yep, the KM tidy of my clothes was, and still is, a great success. It is so easy to see what I have now it is all neatly folded in drawers (except coats and fleeces). I can pack for a trip by lifting a row of tops etc from drawer to case in one swift movement :rotfl:
My problem is (still) that I am trying to reduce myself and rather lost the plot at the end of last year. I am making a big effort now 'cos i am fed up and want to shift the excess clothes that span 2 sizes!
News of relocating items - I have 4 pale ash, rush-seated wooden chairs that were annoying me. They are good quality but do not suit the other stuff we have, esp not the auction-bought mahogany dining table!. Soooo when I noticed 2 lovely mahogany dining chairs in the local auction I put in a cheeky bid.
Yep, I got them this afto :j
Better yet, the modern chairs are going to a young friend who has just moved into her first house :T
I have also broached the subject of the dratted bulky sunloungers that we have not heaved outside for at least 2 years. They are heavy and stored above my head height, so getting them down, carrying them down stairs and out into the garden is a physical feat I can't be bothered to try now. I told DH I have 2 ambitions for Spring - to let go of the sunloungers and to get the large model boat out of the almost-smart LR.
He didn't object about the sunloungers although he has not actually said they can go (). My tactic shall be to find someone who desperately wants them. I think he'll be OK if they can go to a good home :rotfl:
His question in relation to the suggested boat move was interesting - "what would we put on the shelf if the boat wasn't there?"
I pointed out that my first objective was to shift the boat and therefore make the small room look a lot bigger. If he desperately wanted something on the shelf then have just 3 photo frames and maybe a large candle on it.
The boat is very sentimental but I have an alternative suggestion up my sleeve that would remove it completely - it could be sold to raise funds for a boat preservation charity that he is fond of. It is worth at least a couple of hundred quid. Anyway, I have planted the seed, must be patient and let it take root!
All in all, a very promising dayI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
I was going through my husband's bag yesterday when he got in as he bought some stuff from Wilkos. I noticed he has some holes in the bottom of the bag but luckily I remembered I had bought a duplicate for him. The old bag can be binned.:T0

MMF007, that sounds great progress!
For me, I just had an amazing recycling day yesterday - so many cardboard boxes used for shifting things between houses, and deliveries too. Sorting paperwork too - some of which was a group of letters written by grandchildren to my mum - I believe the accepted thing to do with that sort of stuff is return them to the writer? So they have to stay with me for a while, till I see them again.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
