Just been out and hung washing on the line for only the second time this year. Whilst in the garden I went and had a look at the lilac tree I planted as a bare rooted stick about 4 years ago. It's been getting larger across the years, but has never flowered. I think I can see the signs of one flower coming! There is huge pressure on this tree, we had our garden landscaped about 9 years ago, and I specifically said I wanted an old fashioned proper lilac coloured common lilac. What I got was some odd hybrid, the leaves weren't the right shape even and the flowers weren't the right shape either, plus they were a very pale lilac that faded to white. Everytime it flowered I was disappointed, so eventually we dug it out and found somebody on ebay who supplied bare rooted plants.

Will it or will it not be the proper common lilac? If it is, I'm going to dig it up, stick it in a pot and it'll be coming with us when we move. If not, it's staying here and we'll try again to find what I want.

Oh I love a 'proper' lilac tree - we had one in our old garden transplanted as a baby one from my mum's garden. Sadly it was way too big to dig up when we moved and my mum's lilac-lilac has since died. She still has a white lilac, but I don't want one of those. You've got me wondering where I can plant one in this garden now...

Planting one may not be the most difficult thing greent, finding one hasn't been easy. Garden centres if they do stock them tend to have the dark purple ones or white. We had to take out a large dark purple lilac as it was planted too close to a winter flowering cherry and one or other had to go. It was cut down whilst in full flower, so all my neighbours had large bunches of lilac delivered to them.

I had a birthday recently - and have gained a reputation for generosity by sharing the several boxes of chocolates I was given! I now have three empty F***** R***** boxes to use for my craft items and that makes me very happy indeed.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Luxor - I would do the same! Prefer the boxes to the contents lol.
Slinky - common lilac suckers easily - if you see one in someone's garden maybe ask nicely and they'll let you have the shoot?

    Oh I love a 'proper' lilac tree - .

I have 4 large lilac trees here, all different colours and from a specialist tree nursery and I have 6 dwarf lilacs, which are all the same. All the lilacs are in pots, the big ones are in larger pots and in front of a tall wall. They are lovely, the dwarf lilacs will make a dwarf hedge, if I get a house suitable for that. They do very well in pots, the larger ones are remaining at about 8 foot tall and one is 12 years old. The roots are growing through the pots and this autumn, I will lay the pots on their sides and cut the roots off where they poke through, like bonsai

I removed lots and lots of child construction pieces from the house yesterday. I had them out when the dgc were here but they were played with for a short time, then left. Time to move on to someone else. I did keep the boxes as they are layered trays, suitable for crafts and they have a carry handle lid on top

Seeing the over 55s homes, made me re-think my clothes, again. I started wearing trousers which I had hardly worn in the past, I am wearing layers over thin jumpers which will wear out faster than my hm ones. I can see me putting my clothes into categories eg limited and comfortable clothes eg for cycling, allotment, daily wear etc

    Hello everyone

Another one who loves lilac trees.

Well I took a car load of clothes, books and kitchenalia to the charity shops earlier in the week. All good Feng shui because in one of them I picked up an amazing brand new mirror for my hallway for just £10. It would have retailed at about £100 so I was chuffed to bits.

I am steadily working through the garden and I can do a tip run soon although I have a bit of a frozen shoulder at the moment so Cannot do much heavy stuff today. I shall tackle the ornaments and bric a brac instead.

For saying I did quite a big declutter just before Christmas I seem to still have loads to go through. It is addictive. The more I clear out, the more I want to do. My house looks fine on the surface because most of my clutter is hidden away out of sight but tbh I am fed up with bulging cupboards. Sometimes I cannot find things and I get frustrated having to rummage to get to things I need or want to use.

It will be so nice to have everything streamlined and easy to reach.

I've never seen that silvasava. I tried taking cuttings from the one in my sibling's garden and couldn't get them to root.

I've also got to try and take cuttings from a clematis which grows by our kitchen door. It was here when I moved in over 20 years ago and is a fantastic example. It's too close to the house to be able to dig it out I think. I tried growing cuttings before from it for my MIL without success, I'm not very good at this sort of thing!

I heard a crashing noise yesterday and one of the things I had velcroed fell down into the cupboard. :rotfl: Lucky it only had my spare mops heads in and nothing broke. It must have been too heavy but the others seem to be holding fine.

I haven't kondoed my mortgage yet as I realised I had to wait for the interest in my savings account to mature before I could access the money. I will pay it off next week now, after Wednesday.:T

I really want to focus on having experiences like eating out in restaurants and going to gigs, rather than buying new stuff. We have enough stuff already.

I just kondoed some holes in my wall as I need to touch up the paint in places. My husband is getting the paint today so I will do that this weekend.

I went through his wardrobe but he didn't want to get rid of anything. I did steal a few t-shirts of his to put in my wardrobe. He has a lot more clothes than I do!

Loving the lilac talk :) My grandmother had a huge lilac in the corner of her front garden and it was covered in huge fragrant blooms every year - except the year in which she died.....like an omen :( I can remember taking bunches of lilacs to school for the classroom on a Monday morning in late spring - dont know if it was just a thing my school did but almost all the kids brought flowers in at some point! Modern lilacs seem so boring now - flowers last about a week, are not very fragrant or abundant and the tree is really dull for the rest of the year.............or maybe my memory is tinted by childhood rosy glasses ;)
