KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Back from my travels, I saw this house, and my life with fresh eyes and embarked on further rounds of kondoing. This is the third pass in three years.
Two black bags of clothes have gone, and now my clothes fit into one wardrobe and one chest of drawers. Several carrier bags of books and unwanted gifts (mostly Baylis and Harding gift sets) have gone to the local charity shop, with a box of books to go to webuybooks. That's me down to one tall Billy bookcase of books, from two. I've also rationalised my knitting and sewing materials.
I'm hoping to downsize to a ground floor one bedroom flat with very little storage, which otherwise suits my needs perfectly. It's not on the market yet, but advance kondoing means there will be less to be done when I move. Fingers crossed that it all works out.
In the meantime, a look through the kitchen cupboards and drawers has shown me that I've reached peak Kondo in there, and there's nothing I don't use. I'm still happy, BTW, with using two of everything - plates, bowls, sideplates and cutlery, it is brilliant when simplifying works.0 -
Carpet is down - 5 months after 'floodgate'. :T
The new, swedish warehouse, bookcase is much smaller than the old, scruffy one... OH swears that he is going to cull books - says i'll be surprised by how many he gets rid of. We'll see - it's going to have to wait until the weekend anyway when the remainder of Swedish furniture is delivered. In another breath when I said the only books that were mine were 4 slim volumes my mum wrote (local history), one novel (which might go anyway) and 2 gardening books, he said "who needs gardening books"? When I pointed out that no-one needs 25 year old railway timetables, or special interest railway books written in German (which he doesn't speak) - he shut up :rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Cleared & cleaned fridge - just a pot of something that decided it was too cold in there so grew a little fur coat of its own kondoed.
Got an appointment with our financial advisor tomorrow so just checked on my paperwork and jotted down a couple of queries I had. DH is 75 in a couple of months and the goalposts have been moved so need to claim the last bit of his tax free cash - wont be much.
While I was in the RoD I tidied some paperwork, got rid of quite a few bits and found my mums recipe for Franzipan Tart - I'd intended to copy it and not done it so thats been done and the original in a plastic wallet at the back of my recipe folder.
Bought DH 3 hardback books an a CS at the weekend of an author he loves - the three paperbacks can now go in the charity bag. I got a book given to me on Thursday and bought one for myself on Friday - both read and in the CS bag (I'm a very fast reader!) Think I may have a cull of my cookery books during this week - I rarely use them as I can go on the 'tinternet'!
Only bits and bobs but still on the lookout!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
All been a bit slow as been busy with other stuff, but did manage to Kondo some pillows....3 going to the dog charity and 1 that had only been used 3 times, but that was just not right, given to SIL.
Couple of oil sprays being kondo'd from the kitchen as just discovered that olive oil and sunflower oil are bad for you at high temperatures, so getting rid and buying coconut oil.
Work tomorrow, but hoping for a better day at clearing stuff on Wednesday. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I find the information regarding oil for frying and the smoke points most confusing, 2 sites I looked at a while ago both indicate coconut oil not good for deep frying and on another I found this:- Extra light olive oil and sunflower oil are great options to use when you deep-fry foods. They have a high smoke point and heart-healthy unsaturated fats. Other good options include canola, safflower and peanut oils.
Think I need to look into it more:(
I try not to fry very much, but cannot wean OH from fried egg swimming in oil and smelling very hot:eek:The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

I've nibbled away at our wardrobes today. Got a big bag filling for textile recycling and another on the go for the CS. I've said goodbye to numerous articles which have been taking up real estate but have not seen the light of day for many years. Even DH has voluntarily parted with some items  I'm now trying to find the motivation to tackle the ironing basketknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

Half a dozen items listed on flebay today. Some are too specialist for a CS, so really need them to go or they will end up in landfill (spare parts for things) I have another pile of items to list which I am trying to muster up the enthusiasm to do so...
Some too-small and not-fit-for-anyone-else items of DS3's gone into fabric recycling today.
Huge cardboard boxes from radiators and shower enclosure and screen broken down - will see if kerbside recycling will take them or will have to transport them to tip (recycling centre) Have put a load of metal items out front for a scrap-metal vehicle to take sometime. Need to order a skip to put other stuff in (old floor tiles, broken kitchen units, old shower tray/ screen) - cheapest I can find so far for a 4yd skip is over £200!!! :eek I also have some wooden pallets which I need to take to Scout hut for their fires, but can't fit them in my car, so need OH's car to be here and the Scout Hut carpark to be open at the same time...I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
