KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I did shoes and boots this morning. Far too many because of very wide fitting and accumulation while on sale. None to give away and none to throw out. A bit tidier, all summer shoes and sandals are now away in a short elfa tower hidden inside my wardrobe, in the dark hole on the left side. Very happy to report that I found my very safe bootees for snow and ice
I might tackle electronics today if I get in the mood0 -
Off to the CS with some model cars OH reminded me he wanted to part with. There were too many for my trolley the last time I went and I'd forgotten about the others. I've got a money off coupon for the Coop that runs out today, so will do my big shop there this week.
Pee'd off with my IFA who hadn't spotted my pension contributions have been going missing for over a year! I spotted this last Friday, he says the pensions company have raised a complaint against themselves (!) and that it will be sorted and I'll be put back into the position I would have been had they not screwed up. I made him feel pretty uncomfortable about the lack of checks, although he's a friend so I didn't go as far as I could have done. He said he will be putting in new procedures so it would get spotted earlier should it happen again.Make £2025 in 2025

Trying to decide which run of wardrobes will spark the most joy - purpose built costing £ouch! but holding everything plus room for much more, or Swedish shop modules at 1/3rd of the price (including somebody to build it) that will hold all we need plus some space....
Pertinent to the decision is the fact that I have existed very happily for the last six weeks with a capsule collection of clothing, the rest being in boxes where I can't reach them:)

I'd avoid Sharps luxor. The ones I had from them delaminated (the plastic cover split off the chipboard underneath). Had one replaced under guarantee and others split after they ran out of guarantee. I wouldn't risk using them again. The chap who came to replace mine said he'd done a lot of the same elsewhere.Make £2025 in 2025

I'd avoid Sharps luxor......
That sounds awful, especially when you consider now much they charge!
They were off the list already as they messed a friend around badly - didn't attend when stated, parts missing, delays in reordering etc so a two day job stretched to several weeks. The company response was woeful.
We went with the Swedish option, mainly due to a very patient young man who planned out exactly what we wanted there and then, with clear prices. He also organised somebody to build it for us. Bits will be delivered on Monday and we should have everything hung up and put away by the end of the week.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Just to say that I’ve got ‘Swedish’ wardrobes and they are brilliant. So much to choose from for interior fittings, and you can always add to or change the interior bits later. I’d choose them again.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

Ragbag: 1 teatowel, dd1's holey vest.
Africa donations: dd2's dress, 5 pairs of underwear.
I went through our swimwear drawer, where I keep ALL our swimwear, no matter the wearer or the size. Most of it was handed-down to us, mostly by my sister. I finally decided that those items were very much worse for wear, and not my taste at all, so either threw them out or put them in the donation pile. I kept a few in smaller sizes, for when we have friends with children over in summer and put up our pool. I have found out that many of husband's African friends do not have swimwear for their children. I prefer to have them wear proper swimwear rather than underwear or nothing (especially with 2 teenage boys living behind us, overlooking our backyard). Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
Having got rid of a lot of stuff in Oct (donated to CS, PTA, school second hand rail, animal shelter, foodbank, homeless appeal. Sold via flebay, z1ff1t and fb00k. Recycles bag of clothing (worn out or stained) via HnM) November is also off to a cracking start - big bag of things to shoebox appeal, more to second handrail at school, a bag of items for homeless appeal again, a box of things (so far) for CS and a flebay sale and tonight hopefully someone is coming to buy some items listed on fb00k. Much recycling and a little bit if binning also going on. Nothing large has left, but things are adding up. :TI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200

And just as well we did choose the cheaper option, because we now have water coming in through the back roof - the one the roofer assured us was in decent condition.
It was a storm of apocalyptic proportions, but we sprang two separate leaks so the roofing materials cannot have been as secure as he thought.
Fortunately, nothing was damaged and we will only have minor decoration to complete when the roof is fixed. Unfortunately, the insurance company considers the damage as 'wear and tear'.
We do, however, have the money to pay for it without disturbing long-term savings because DH's recent pacemaker and my grumbling gallbladder meant we decided not to travel abroad for a while.... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
4 McD toys to the donation pile.
DD2 did a lot of crafting on Sunday afternoon, and used up 1 sticker sheet, 3 sheets of thin cardboard, a pot of paint, the last of the cornflakes, and some ribbon.
Husband has decided that he will not keep the wintercoat someone gave us, but he will donate it to the illegal immigrants sleeping rough in a park in Brussels. I am now pressuring him to donate it quickly. I'll see if I have some more winter items to donate; there are kids there, too
My parents gave us a piano (I'm really grateful, and dds are really looking forward to it arriving), and now we have to find space in the living room to put it. Will sort out toy part of living room with dds to make space.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590
