Several large bags and boxes worth of random items donated to CS this month. 2 bags of old clothes swapped at h&m for vouchers. Bag of small toys and small toiletries to shoebox appeal. Lots of random items (non recyc) from my nan's house burned. Furniture from my nan's house sold/ donated/ tipped (manly old bed), bookcase sent off to uni with DD, small items sold via fbook/ flebay.
Have a growing bag of donations for food bank but am saving it up for later in Oct when DS3's school do a collection for them for their harvest festival - some of my items are a bit random (tubs of mini breadsticks - previously eeaten by ds2 in vast quantities but no longer and the students only wanted.to take a few tubs back - so I still have 4 left - but they are reasonable snack foods . Also around 50 small packs of Nutella - need to donate it or I will eat it all!)

Need to clear more before the Christmas incoming wave of items, though...

Well done, greent. Won't the school have a breakfast or lunch at some point, where you can donate the breadsticks and nutella?

DDs have a school running event today, so I went up into the attic to see if dd2 had running/outdoor sport shoes. She tried on 5 pairs (both new as well as secondhand from either dd1 or friends) that she had outgrown already. We decided that she will wear a pair of golden Ad1das shoes to run in; these are shoes that she also wears to school on a regular day, but the brand still means they are sport shoes, so we're good. Both dds have indoor sport shoes, but until last year, no outdoor sport shoes. I had to go and buy a pair specifically for this one-off, 15-minute event every year. I kept dd1's shoes for dd2, but still, EUR15 for 15 minutes???

While in the attic, we found a pair of leather boots that she will start wearing to school. I will polish them tonight or tomorrow night.

Weekend visit went well. Rather tiring for husband, as the guests wanted to go salsa dancing, so he took them out both nights (and I had an early night :)) First night it was until 01.00, second night he wasn't home until 03.30!

The nephew of unspecified age turned out to be 28 :rotfl: and only spoke Spanish.

Some extra friends came over to meet their old friends, and stayed for dinner. It's a good thing I had extra stuff for dessert in the house/freezer, because dinner was only just enough for all of us.

I spent 5 minutes going through dd2's trouser-shoebox, and took out all the shorts; 9 pairs to the attic for either donation or next year.

Ironing last night, found 1 tunic of dd2 was heavily inkstained, so will be ragged. Husband indicated he didn't like a specific short-sleeved button-up anymore, so that is in the donation box.

Karmacat - In case you havn't already, worth checking out your local CS as many of them take 'ragging' and are pleased to have a bag labelled up so they dont have to sort through it!

Prepping the house for my parents visiting Thursday - Saturday after that (10 days). The house is lovely uncluttered and I would like to keep it that way.

Thinking up some odd jobs my parents can do, as they always like to be helpful. They always try to wash the windows, clear the terrace, vacuum the house, de-web the ceilings, etc. They collect dds from school and play with them, help with homework, admire new dance routines; it's really helpful and relaxed.

KM'd the bedroom ceiling today thanks to a very hard-working team of specialists : a water damaged artex ceiling definitely does not spark joy!

The process of completely emptying the room has been...interesting. Not sure what exactly we will be putting back in, but there will be less of it.

Got back from holiday last week, had a lovely time back to the chill of Autumn now. Over the weekend we kondo'd a hedge from under the kitchen window. We are having a water softener installed, and the only place it will fit without getting in the way, is outside. One green bin full. Have cut some more off the duetzia out the back, need to get the heavy weight loppers out now for the thicker branches. Want to get it down to about 18 inches in height/diameter before we try digging it out to move it. It was about 8 feet in height/diameter before I started hacking at it. I also dug out 2 of the 4 self seeded walnuts, 2 larger ones still to go. We planted some bulbs we brought with us from the other house into a trough and a pot as we haven't decided where to plant them in the garden yet, so hopefully they will survive for another year.

Been to the pool today and signed up for membership and the local cinema where membership at £10 a month each seemed a bargain. OK so only a couple of films to choose from per week, but I'm sure I'll get £60 worth of value over the next 6 months.

Large bag and large box of all sorts of items donated to CS on Monday. Book borrowed from sister returned yesterday, together with a freebie OH got which is perfect for her. Also gave her some fruit from the garden (we have soooo much.....) Donated 5 new items to DS2's PTA for fundraising activities. Christmas-type scented giftset found under our bed bought for £2 in the sales in the Spring - box and packaging recycled and I have put the shower gels, bath foam and soap in our bathroom for use (works out cheaper than standard s/gels). Holey tshirt to recycling.

3 items of OH's clothing (virtually unworn, now too big and all branded hiking type clothing) listed on t'bay. Watchers on 2 of them.

Bag of items for homeless shelter and bag of items for foodbank to be delivered later in month :)

Lots of Summer bedding removed form pots - replaced with chrysanthemums and violas. Some trees and bushes pruned and recycled via green bin.
