Their house looked like a show home. If I'm honest, I wouldn't want to live there, but the contrast with my cottage did make it look distinctly mucky and down-at-heel. I might need to up my cleaning game :o

Oh I often feel like this when I have been inviting a couple of friends who live in immaculate houses....ours is a very old cottage with uneven walls and floors. Dusty, webby nooks and crannies. None standard doors and slopey low ceilings. Narrow stairs and steps in and out of most rooms.........wouldnt change it for the world;)

  • A holey and much loved pair of pj trousers into the ragbag yesterday. A pile of magazines to a rellie last weekend. More paperwork through the shredder and into the recycling bag.

Progress still very slow, but progress it is!

Back in the attic: opened a cardboard box labelled 'curtains', which contained 3 white and 2 yellow readymade curtains (still fine), 2 flowery curtains (also still fine), 3 embroidered curtains (1 fine, 1 nibbled, 1 destroyed by mice!), 3 sheer curtains (still fine). The nibbled curtain is in the donation bag, the destroyed curtain in the ragbag, the good curtain and sheer curtains are in the laundry bin.

The box was empty and has been repurposed to hold future winter coats for dds.

In the box with the curtains I also found a red woollen rollneck sweater with a faux leather elbow patch. It must have been in there for 7 years.... it's been airing outside today and I will wear it tomorrow to see if there was any reason why it was stuck in the attic for so long (I can't remember, and it being wool means it's nice and warm when I'm home during the day).

The slimmcardboard box from the downstairs loo is now holding the mittens, hats, and scarves. It fits snugly behind the door to the office, which is off the coatrack area and usually open, covering one wall of the coatrack area.

:) Came home to make a phone call then picked up the chazzer donation bag and whizzed it off to them. Only 4 articles, but all were containers, so proportionally a lot of 'volume' left if not a lot of weight.

I did buy two lovely books when I was in there but they're not for me, and had a riot with a pal who also happened to be in there at the time.;)

I'm glad it's not just me! My eyes are readjusting now - although it did prompt a small flurry of tidying and ROUNDTUIT sorting :o

:) The long-established answer to social anxiety when having folks around to a home which may look like a home rather than an operating theatre is simple and well-understood.

The rabbits are back in their hutch, after roaming free through four neighbouring gardens (with permission), for eating all the veg from one of the neighbours. However, one of the two rabbits has picked up some houdini tricks and manages to open the hutch with regular intervals and bolts. I don't mind catching him, and enjoy his smart moves, but have warned dds that if they again refuse to help me catch him, I'm going to sell them both, and the hutch.

I have been working my way through hand sewing projects that have been hanging around too long trying to keep busy. Think our next big kondo will be our beloved German shepherd as we were told this week he has cancer. That is one thing I wish I could keep forever and we are broken hearted.

I know in the great scheme of things this is small beer compared to what some people are dealing with but he has been at the centre of our world for over 13 years and has been the best dog and friend anyone could ever ask for. We will keep him till he begins to suffer. Christmas will be quiet in the daisy household this year

I'm so sorry to hear your news, Daisy. They become family members, there's no doubt. Thinking of you, and your German Shepherd friend
