KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I..... I've also bunged in a pair that due to the way they are made (big piece of material across the bum rather than a seam up the back) makes them a real pain to iron as you can't slide the leg hole over the end of the board........
Bad enough ironing Mr L's giant shirts (he is very tall, and proportionally broad) but if I had to iron his unmentionables too, well  I mean, I love him but …..
It's stretchy cotton only in Chez Luxor. It's the law. Honest.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I remember a discussion years ago at work about who irons what and someone coming in halfway through was asked do you iron towels. "Iron towels?" She asked. "Never. I'm far too busy ironing my tights!" :rotfl::T:rotfl::T (where's the sarcastic emoji?)
Sums up my attitude, nothing gets bought for the daisy household if it requires ironing. At a stroke i got back hours and hours of my time cos since I hated it I would leave it for ages so it turned into a much harder job lying in a pile.
If you like ironing, go for it! Iron your carpets for all I care!! My mil loved ironing and did it all - tshirts, socks, pants, towels etc but I just prefer to live a more casual life so clothes i like are bought with non iron in mind and apparently I don't look crushed because people appear genuinely surprised and scrutinise my clothes when it comes up. We generally wear cotton and denim, jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, that kind of thing (not polyester, crimpolene and other wrinkle free stuff :rotfl:) Clothes are shaken and hung on the line or clothes horse then put away once dry. That seems to help. In the case of the big pants, Slinky, I would shake out, probably use two pegs since they seem to warrant it and then into the drawer they would go :T but totally agree with the principle of division of labour into stuff each partner is better at, enjoys more or can put up with the lack of less easily.
Loving the discussion

Very little ironing done here either. Certainly no underwear (stretchy cotton here too), but in summer I do wear linen trousers so I just iron them as rarely as I can get away with
and I have a purple linen shirt which I love, so that has to be ironed too. But that's it, except on the rare occasions OH wears a proper shirt. (We're retired and he lives in polo shirts.)
I did used to know a lovely girl who ironed everything, including her cleaning cloths :eek:0 -
Doesn't ironing reduce the absorption? I was taught never to iron cotton nappies and just assumed the same applied to teatowels and cleaning cloths. We have a cotton shower curtain that we need to iron to make it water repellent.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590

Doesn't ironing reduce the absorption?
I dread to think about the absorption or lack of for my OH's cotton boxers..........
I also iron his work shirts which are double cuffed as he likes cufflinks. Normally I get the summer off for these as he has some short sleeved ones, but no, his work this year has been in an airconditioned office so I'm still doing the long sleeves. These need to be ironed, at the day rate he charges he can't get away with not looking smart!Make £2025 in 2025

My OH is also a day rate contractor with a preference for double cuffs! He is currently, though, in contract with a trendy millennial company where even the CEO wears shorts in the Summer! My OH 's version of dress down is flowery shirts with waistcoat..... sigh...
Back to school means I've offloaded a pile of outgrown uniform to school / friends. More going later this weekAnd a large bag of mixed stuff to the CS :T

Bought a spray can of pale blue paint to try for some of my cupboard doors. I liked to colour so bought a few more but didn't hassle DH to do them. I was away over the weekend and when I got back he'd started taking the doors off and spraying them. The ones he's done so far look fab. The upshot being I had to empty the cupboards and give them a good wash & that resulted in identifying a few more things to Kondo. The drawers needed spraying too so DH has emptied his man drawer!!! Now looks all neat and tidy and a couple of things being passed on. It's also made me decide to Kondo a dinner service that I've not seen for years. It's not a particularly expensive one but will do someone else a good turn.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Since I first Kondoed my clothes, I haven't needed to put away summer or winter stuff - everything fits in the wardrobe and C-O-D. I wear quite a lot of stuff like t-shirts and cardigans all year round anyway, just in different layers.
I found myself looking in the wardrobe this morning and realising that there are a few things I wore this summer that don't feel very joyful, and some winter stuff that didn't get worn last year. I think it might be time for a full-scale clothes Kondo again. It's three years since I first did it, at that point I'd only just given up full-time work to become self-employed, and wasn't quite sure what I'd need. Is it weird that I feel quite excited at the idea of getting everything out and going through it all again!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. I iron as little as i can get away with. Have just made a huge decision for our old age. We were thinking of moving but have after a lot of thought decided to stay.We are in a bungalow but with a huge think very big garden. We are going to do up the house get a cleaner as I can no longer bend and get a gardener. Decided to upgrade the heating decorate the whole house and a new carpet for the lounge.Wish me luck. This is how well I have KMed the cupboards.started today by emptying the airing cupboard lots and lots of toiletries i had forgotten about.0

:T Sounds like a great idea, grunnie. Moving is hugely disruptive and you bleed wealth as you sell and buy again. I've heard that it isn't uncommon to lose 20% of the value of your home when you sell, and that buys some nice home decor and plenty of cleaning and gardening help.
Besides, folk need to earn money and you'll be doing some others a service by hiring them to do what you cannot do so easily for yourselves now.
I iron almost nothing and intend to keep on with the practise. After decades of nagging my mother, she has finally realised how little ironing one can do without being a social pariah. I'm just a bit sad that it took until her mid-seventies and having Parkinson's Disease to get to this point.:(
My kondo-ing has slowed down (hence my quietness on here) due to the fact that I'm wearing things out rather than purging cupboardfuls of Stuff. I don't actually have a huge amount of possessions, due to living very small. I'd be quite intruiged to see my Stuff in a more normally-sized flat or house; suspect they'd be plenty of white spaces.
A few days ago I bought a mug and will donate another mug to the kitchenette at the juntique shop - they broke one the week before, and the current mug inventory is a bit scanty if several folks are in at once (this shop often functions a lot like a social club for the owner's old pals and brew-ups are always happening).Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
