KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Hi, regarding the stairlift, I had to sell one and put it on gumtree. It sold to someone 100 miles away for the asking price (£300 i think) We showed it to them working, then they went away for a couple of hours while my husband uninstalled it.0

thanks for stairlift tips, I am very much hoping that EA has managed to explain to her about removing and selling but I have a local handyman who will project manage the work I need doing before the flooring is done. I could do it but he is 100% trustworthy and I have enough to do. He will see to taking the stairlift out. I won`t be keeping it, there is downstairs accomodation plus good shower room. If I get to that stage then I can live downstairs but would hopefully never need to do that. When old then I would move anyway. I can see me being in the house between 10 and 12 years, not much longer than that
I am more concerned about security as it is in a very different postition from where I am now, rather open from the side and hidden from the road. I will be getting a garden designer/landscaper in because I am facing the fact that I could no longer do all that stuff, last time was 2010 and it is very heavy work. I will be asking about railings, gate, secured garage side door and burglar deterrent hedging, a prickly mix. There is plenty of wiggle room for a good hedge. I wouldn`t be able to do a front gate so will be taking out her pride and joy hand made wooden front door, that could be bashed in by anyone and I would replace with a similar style secure door. One of the reasons I don`t want her to come back, she was on about all the stuff they put in. I am also thinking about the windows, I have good secure hardwood triple glazing here, the glass is dark from the outside. Her glazing is white upvc and 20 years old, would suffice but I can do better for me
I was researching flooring last night and have, to my joy, found a very big company with excellent reviews near by, that will do everything, has a massive choice and will do the sisal carpet that I have now. Smooth easy care downstairs and sisal upstairs and stairs. All daunting as it must be done before I get furniture moved in. Wanted wood but too much maintenance, so will be loose laid click flooring so as not to damage original floorboards which I am sure are under the carpets.0 -
Morning all - back from my holibobs. The small amount of packing is unpacked, put away or laundered. Just a small amount of ironing to do.
The first week, we were on a boat on the river lot in France - so a small amount of handwashing (using shower gel) was undertaken, hung from the rails (i am sure the French enjoyed the sight of a load of knickers wafting by). The second week saw DD and i in Disneyland Paris - oh my dears what a lot of tat there is for sale . And the amount that was purchased by the masses - and the amount that DD purchased :eek: It's her own hard earned so i couldn't say much except by VERY expressive tuts.. :rotfl:
The house was cleaned and tidied before we left so it was lovely to come back to relative calm. Also the garden seems to have survived having no water for 2 weeks - even the runner beans are alive, they just haven't grown much. They will get some care and attention now.
This week I am DETERMINED to finally get rid of the blessed filing cabinet that seems to be becoming a dumping ground.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Is the filing cabinet metal. They can be repurposed into fabulous "designer" garden planters, laid sideways on their backs, drawers removed, attach wheels and spray painted with metal paint.
They cost hundreds, yours for the cost of a set of wheels and a couple of cans of Hammerite.0 -

Regrettably not. OH replaced it with a metal one as he didn't think the wooden one fit for purpose..I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
:j:j:jI'm on my new 'puter! I think everything's working because all bits have wee lights showing but I'm a nervous wreck. I may still need to have a bit of input from the Computer Wizard but he's working away this weekend.
Gosh, but it's good to be back online properly. Anyone know how to get a v.simple email prgramme to use with Win 10?

Thanks, I was just clicking around at the bottom of the screen and found Mail and have linked it to my permanant email account from the ISP and have got access to my emails.
Gosh, but it's funny how accustomed I was to my 16 y.o. PC and Win XP and how loads of stuff is different now, even to the size of the keyboard. This CPU is half the size of the old one, the new monitor is the same brand as its predecessor but light enough to pick up one-handed as opposed to weighing 21 kg! It's bigger but fits towards the back of the pooter desk so I now have about 18 inches of clear desk space once the keyboard drawer is pushed back in.
Have you any idea how thrilling that is to someone who lives in a shoebox like mine?!:rotfl:
I have packaging all over the bed and the old PC in sections on the floor, I may slip out on the pushbike to take some bits of it to the tip, the monitor will have to wait a favour from car owner.
ETA; that's now one keyboard, one mouse and 6 speakers (5 of them tiny) into electrical section at the tip. The mouse and keyboard were worn out, the underneath structure was wearing out thru the surface of the mouse, the end isn't compatible with modern PCs without a special adaptor (so says computer wizard) and the keyboard was losing its print off the letters. Just as well I mostly touch-type, lol. The speakers has defect which meant they had a kind of power-surge which meant they intermittantly went WHUMP which isn't good for the nerves. Thusly, I deemed all those ponents to be unfit for service even via freegling.
The cables are separated and are going to a chazzer which weighs them into the scrap trade, the CPU will be going to the tip soon, minus HDD, and the monitor will probably wait until tater harvesting time, when Dad will be up this way with the car. I shall bribe him with tubers to take it to the tip in the hometown.
Then there's all the paperwork and driver disks related to the old PC to turf out. This changing stuff/ shopping etc is bliddy hard work. Hope I don't have to do it all again for another 16 years!
YS Hunting Tyme is now upon is, I may require chocolate.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
