Carpetright - am I right or wrong?

Depends if you call £16 psm cheap.0 -
The fact the carpet has been removed and returned due to being faulty I think would make a reasonable case the carpet is not fit for purpose. I would just send an LBA. However since you have already gone to your credit card company, you'd need them to let it run its course.0

LBA = Letter Before Action
An afterthought........could you not get a sample of the carpet from another Carpetright store & see if it does the same thing when folded??0 -

Yes, another good idea.
The way I expect this to go is, I will get a refund via either Carpetright head office or my credit card, and then I will probably never use Carpetright again.0 -
A development. Carpetright rang. They refuse a refund, but will give me a credit against another carpet.
The next-cheapest stair carpet is £4 psm more than the one I have paid them for. So they are suggesting that one and I have to pay the difference which is £120.0 -
Perhaps counter-offer that they supply the alternative carpet for no additional charge. When they reject that then perhaps offer to split the difference - i.e. £60 extra.
OR reject their offer outright and insist on a full refund. Then see if the CC claim succeeds - if not then send an LBA followed by an MCOL claim.

Thank you DoaM!0 -
I tend to find I get much better carpet if I get remnants. Carpetright do normally have a lot of remnants and some of them are quite large.
However a 5mx5m measurement for your stairs does seem quite large.
I bought one 'cheap' carpet and as soon as it turned up.., it had so few fibres you could see the backing more than the fibres lol. I learned from that.., always check what the carpet looks like, you can tell even from sideways on online photos how densely packed the fibres are. I haven't made a mistake since being more careful.0 -
You've already paid out £40 to the fitter. Hold out for the upgrade at the original cost, if not then proceed with an LBA. And a written complaint to Head Office re the manager's response to your complaint.No free lunch, and no free laptop
