two things, but they probably will not effect you?

Wireless and cable do not use the same method or recognising transmission. Cable uses a switch where one output is switch to another input. Wifi is more hub based, where they all talk together. then asked to re-transmit. So may people using it at once will lower the total throughput compared to one person due to the clashes.

if the person(s) use torrents or other software that can open multiple connections, can cause the nat table on the router to fill up and stop working until rebooted.

The better router have more memory and some routers you can auto reboot, so that they start the day clean.

some other routers you can assign a different vlan to each wifi hotspot so the people can not hack each other, and give each hotspot a different channel, password and a set throughput so no one can hog the bandwidth.

Simply add a cheap wireless router to each cable?

OP has described they intend to do this. The problem relates to providing power to these devices. See post 1

If I understand the issue correctly, Ethernet cable has been wired in but no nearby power points exist. And wireless access points are needed at each holiday flat.

So use POE which will send the power through the Ethernet cable. Just one connection needed at the wifi access point end.

Reading your question, I am curious as to how far the nearest power source is to where the data cables are holed in? If it's just a few feet, then you might be easier just getting a longer wired adaptor and clipping the cabling to the skirting.

You need wireless access points that use power over ethernet to power them. Ubiquiti do some very nice ones. TPLink do some as well, in both cases they're usually sold as ceiling mount but you can put them anywhere. Expect to pay around £60-£80 per access point.

You will also need a network switch that does power over ethernet to feed them although they may come with a power adapter that plugs into the network cable in which case you won't. Distance from the switch to the access point won't be an issue, they'll all work over 1000ft.

Just revisiting this, sorry about the delay ...

I think this is the plan - am I correct???

I sign up with an ISP
They provide me with a wireless router
I plug the router into a POE switch such as the one mentioned by AndyPix in post5
I plug the cables going to each apartment into the outlet of this 'box'
I plug the cables in the apartments into a 'wireless access point' detailed in post 15 & 17

    ???

    :)

    Looks like it.

Note: the fact the ISP router has WiFi capability is irrelevant ... you'll be connecting an Ethernet port to the POE switch. In fact you might just turn off the WiFi on the router (unless the apartment(s) closest to the router will use that WiFi signal rather than a PoE wireless AP).

    ^^ This - exactly.
And it is advisable to vlan each port off so that one appartment cant see devices in the other apartment.
They effectively have their own wifi - which i guess is the end result that you are looking for.

Come back when you have bought a switch (buy a managed one) and ill tell you how to do this

    Router will be in cellar.
Lower apartment is 'duplex' (two storey) so I'm sort of hoping that between the cellar and the 1st floor, one AP and the original router will cover it
