Sorted mums new toy out ...9.50 a month with the phone included with Tesco. Now to see if she will actually try to learn how to use it or if the toys will come out of the cot when I try to teach her to text :rotfl: Wish me luck I feel I will need it.

Good luck with that... my DM had a Tesco Doro phone for a while and managed to learn to text. However, more recently she asked me, in a plaintive voice, if she could have a 'grown up phone'! She meant one which has internet, email, photographs etc. I got her an iphone as she was used to the ipad. She manages fairly well for her age, gets confused still between texts and whatsapp but mostly OK with some help.

I've been busy with managing my email inbox, marking late work, soothing a couple of students and sorting out a student who was convinced I hadn't sent her the latest piece of work and how unfair it was! Once I forwarded to her the two emails I sent (showing her in the address line) out she calmed down but is now worried cos her work is again late!

My lunch was some almost dried up mushrooms, fried up on toast with egg. I'm determined to use up more stuff. There's tomatoes roasting in the oven, I prefer roasting them to frying them, eggs made into egg mayo, yohghurt almost at end of BB eaten up. I've also planted out some more dried peas for some fresh winter greenery.

No snow yet, high winds are back, some icy rain and a real chill! More tea is needed.

I hope everyone can keep warm.

    .

Now that is impressive ...maybe by lesson 1000 we can start on apps. She wanted one like everyone else had but I fear the worst

I got her this one which has really good reviews for older people ease of use....they don't know my mother though

  • ELONA thanks for the advise. As we are fighting two battles healthwise it's difficult knowing who to approach for help. He is "living" with the cancer without too many problems so far - it's the peripheral neuropathy that is causing him the most of his problems with mobility (walking, up and down stairs etc) and as this is irreversible it will steadily get worse and worse over time. If we stay here I know it will cost us a lot to make it disabled friendly but we don't know who to approach about help. We seem to have been left to our own devises to find out. You'd think there was someone who could tell you what help is available and how to go about it. We have never had to apply for help/benefits before and it's all new to us. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that AgeUK have advice centres so might start with them.

My three loads of washing has turned into four

Decided to have several hot drinks and put my feet up and take things slowly rather than try to do too much. Ordered a few bits and bobs from a***on as approved food would not recognise my bank card.

I find that doing just one thing at a time while commercials are on and relaxing the rest of the time gets things done without getting too stressed or tired and lets me recharge my batteries.

    Hugs to all

    TA

Please contact McMillan for advice first as they are all about "living with cancer" and have more experience and expertise than other places.

My DM had the basic clam shell one - very basic.

As for apps, she uses some on the ipad, only one or two but that's all she wants to use. Good luck!

McMillian Nurses as Elona suggested, also social services should be helping. AgeUK have some great advice too. Sorry you feel so alone, it won't help you make any decisions.

Moving house is always a dreadful prospect after being in a home for many years. My DM couldn't contemplate it when she was in her 70s, though luckily she's in a flat so it's just the inside stairs which she has to climb.

I hope you can get some help soon. Perhaps ask your DD to make enquiries on your behalf if you can't face it?

Think the snow won't be long in arriving... the sky has that look about it.

Sorry for the late post but we have been "cruising" in the new car, baseball caps on backwards, shades on, stereo blaring, windows down etc :rotfl:. Mr Fix It's head will be firmly stuck in the manual for a while as you need a pilots licence to work out all the buttons . Took Dad with us and he bought us a pub lunch, think he's still feeling guilty about the other week and so he should.
OK who's hidden the Sandman ? Could have done with a visit myself last night. If he turns up please point him in my direction :D.
Nelski we bought Dad a new Nokia phone, a swipe one, as he couldn't operate the buttons on his old one. He can ring and read texts but that's all, it's taken us 2 years to get that far :rotfl:.
Karcher I'm here for you, anytime. You have lots of friends on here too.
Redruby plenty of snacks, HM cakes and biscuits at the ready. Not sure about the wine though, don't want you drunk in charge of a paintbrush :rotfl:
    JackieO congrats to Jack
TA I would be in the same boat as you. Have you tried asking the council, they may be able to help or at least point you in the right direction.
Enough waffling, I'm off for "more tea vicar". Take care see you tomorrow.
Hope all those under the weather get better soon. The hug bucket is full so please help yourselves.

I finally managed to get the approvedfoods order sorted out properly and also put an order in at sainsbobs for tomorrow morning.

As weather forecast is bad and there are nasty viruses about as well as flu I thought it was sensible to get stocked up with cans of soup, soft drinks, frozen crumpets and muffins, eggs etc so I have easy to make and eat things in the house. If I can get all the laundry washed, dried and put away and the pots and dishes cleaned and put away then the house will be tidy and more relaxing.

    Hugs to all.
