Cheap flights to New Zealand

I've just booked flights to New Zealand in November 2018 for £850 return each, which is something of a bargain as most searches for flights produced a price of around £2,000 each.
This is roughly what I paid to fly there back in 1997!!!
It's with Singapore Airlines but I booked it via the Air New Zealand website and it's part of their sale which ends at the end of January - took a bit of finding but it's there!!

Air China  But half the price
And you may get a 72hr visa free stop in Beijing.0 -
Air China has fares of around £460 or less over that period.
Example over Christmas;
Long stopovers, but a chance for day excursions in Beijing0 -

Impressive pricing if cost is the be all and end all, but comparing Air China with Singapore Airlines is ......well not a comparison at all.0 -

Thank you for your pearls of wisdom.
But for the people who can afford £500 per person but not £800+, a bit of a waste of time and space. Thanks anyway.0 -

It didn't exist until after I clicked the Submit button. I started the post, went away, then put together the screenshot etc and then posted. Only then did your post appear.0 -
I have just booked flights to New Zealand with Air China from early April for under £400. The layover in Beijing gives us over ten hours if we want to do a little sightseeing and it includes free use of the airport lounge and hotel - what's not to like?0

For a cheap cost per flight hour flown you could’ve booked the other end of the scale, Singapore Airlines, without dreading your Air China flight home.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Seems that it's just you and dickydonkin dreading it. PP seems very happy with the saving and philosophical about the stopover.
A break in a very long journey with use of a lounge and hotel seems preferable than doing the thing all in one go.
So you and dickydonkin can choose to pay double if you wish. But this is a website dedicated to saving money.
So silliness about "cost per flight hour" means nothing. It's £850 versus £400.
If the prices were similar, no one would be disagreeing that SIA would be the first option. But at half the price and a chance to look around Beijing, you are on the losing side of the argument.
Reminder; Cheap flights to New Zealand0
