Im fond of my aeropress too. I also use paper filters, one cup size or over a jug. These are easily dropped in the recycling when done with.

We were on holiday in a self-catering flat and discovered a moka pot. Once we worked out how to use it we were hooked. After we came home we bought one like this.

We use it for breakfast every day - sometimes using any leftover coffee later in the morning. I'm not sure it is much cleaner than a cafetiere however - we tend to use it when we have guests.

Moka pot for me at home too, at work I use a cafetierre, they are not messy.
  • Also favour a cafetière .......
    (so many spellings here!!)

Why do you think it is messy?
Tip: Put grounds on garden afterwards, deters slugs!

Not worth having a machine for one person who drinks more tea than coffee. So I have a Cafetiere and strain the dregs through a sieve type tea strainer. I've also bought a milk frother so I can do a fake cappuccino.
  • I have a grinder attachment for my Kenwood Chef, I grind enough coffee for a day or two and keep it in the fridge. I’ve never liked cafetières and drip coffee makers, the coffee lacks intensity. I have used stove top espresso makers for decades, they are sometimes called Moka pots. Italian ones look nice but they are shoddy, I’ve had welded pieces fall off several. This is the best I’ve found:

It is sold under Stellar and Horwood brands and is Chinese made. German ones are good too.

It produces nice strong coffee which can be watered down if need be. Much better than ready ground coffee!
  • Another vote for the Moka stovetop coffee maker. They come in various sizes to suit your needs. We have a coffee grinder and grind our beans daily, but you can obviously use ready ground coffee.

We don't find disposing of the used grounds messy. They are quite well compacted in the hopper after the water has been forced through them, we just tip them out and dispose of them. A quick rinse of the hopper in the sink and all is good to go again.

Highly recommended, we've used them for years
  • Lyons do filter coffee in bags ( like tea bags). Leave to brew squeeze bag and either put it on the garden to keep cats away or dispose of it.
    Sold in Asda and Tesco.
  • Another vote for Aeropress. No more scraping grounds out of the cafetiere, no more moka pot falling over failing to balance over the gas stove. (Yes, I'm a klutz.) Bit of a hassle if you're making more than 1-2 cups at once, but for just me it's perfect.
  • After reading this thread yesterday , it made me get out my bodum French press( I think that’s what it is :rotfl:) . Living on my own, the size I have holds enough for two mugs , me and whoever .

I put 2 tablespoons of ground coffee into the bodum _ put hot watei in- when boiled pour water in _ stir and place lid/ plunger onto bodum_ wait 4 mins then press plunger down - done .
Felt the coffee rush alright :rotfl:
Oh, the bodum is easy to clean . I haven’t a dishwasher .
They normally get reduced to half price in ROBERT dyass etc

I make black coffee. If I’m in a shop, I buy cappuccino . Bizarre I know
