Next option. Shut down, remove battery, press start button and hold for around 20 secs to de-power. Put battery back in and re start. If it does not find it then it sounds like the card is dead. Cards can be got from Ebay for around £1.50 so not a biggie except can be a pita to change..

Taken all afternoon but its all up & running again.
I have a nasty feeling that the problem was caused by a win 10 update.

I have just had the opposite. Wifi not turning on when starting up. After this latest update it has worked every time.

^^this....seen many an older lappy's hardware and drivers getting borked by W10 updates, including one that became pointless with no sound or wifi (that one got a clean install of W7 and has been a happy bunny since )
