Thanks for the jam recipes
We had rain an hour or so ago but it's stopped now and is sunny and blowy, and much cooler - so far at least!!0 -
We had ran last night and it's raining today gently
I've finally cooked the piece of gammon that's been lingering in the fridge for a fortnight. Popped it into a pan as soon as I realised it was gloriously cool in the kitchen.
MrsLW's idea for using up part of the bulgar wheat salad as burgers worked well. They had a good texture and were very tasty. Last night I made a quick kedgeree with the last big bowlful by melting a little low fat spread and gently frying a large onion chopped small, adding a dessertpoon of curry paste, a single piece of smoked mackeral, a chopped hard boiled egg and the last of the flipping salad. Made sure it was absolutely piping hot and served it for supper. It was interesting rather than excellent, but perfectly edible. I started the week with a baking bowl full of the stuff and am proud to say it's all been eaten. The original was quite bland, bulgar wheat, chopped raw onion, chopped tomatoes, fresh mint and a dressing of plain lemon juice so it carried the stronger favours of kedgeree and burglars well.
Have to admit though it's not a salad I'll be making myself in a hurry :rotfl:0 -
Yippee :j here in Yorkshire we've finally had a decent amount of rain overnight so everything feels much fresher. Cooler today, breezy and cloudy and we're forecast more rain today/tomorrow. I wish I could send some down to all of you in the South who are still sweltering in the heat.
Only 2 weeks before our holiday in Devon:) so I'll be making sure to use up everything from the fridge before we go. For tomorrow's dinner I'm making a chicken, bacon & leek pie with mash and green beans. The chicken breasts were ys and the bacon pieces are from a pack of offcuts (both from the freezer). I bought the leek yesterday, got the beans ys and it will reduce the stash of packet sauces by one
. I'll make enough filling for 2 pies so - one for tomorrow, one for the freezer. Haha, no wonder the freezer always seems stuffed. :rotfl: Any pastry trimmings will make jam and/or lemon curd tarts.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
We had a big thunderstorm yesterday and rain in the night, and it's still drizzly now, and enough of a novelty that I'm loving it - as long as it doesn't stay too long!
Might actually do some cooking today :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Good to see everyone enjoying the much needed rain :j. It's drizzly here in the South East and very windy. But where I live it's always a bit breezy! The temperature is down but it still feels quite clammy.
My DH has been camping since Thursday with his mates so it's just been me and the 2 youngest DCs. But DD and I went out Friday to an Am Dram () of High School Musical as her friend was in it and we got a burger from the kebab shop. And yesterday both DCs went out so it was just me. So I only had some toast. Sometimes it's nice not to have to cook a whole dinner. DH is due back today some time with a mountain of washing! I think I'll just do something from the freezer for dinner. It's still quite chokka in there.Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £161.29 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -

We used to do that too. But I am not a fan of rice pud so we don't have it now...
I am back from my week in France, visiting my friend. I am planning to get mush more on the LFHW bandwagon to use up and then reset some stores...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Near to us there are two houses that have blackberry bushes, where all the blackberries are just being left to drop on the floor. (On the public side). So hubby and I took a bag out with us and went and picked some. 500g all washed and put into the freezer, ready to go into a crumble later in the year.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

Now and again I may but not often, but I usually use some of the strawberry stuff I keep for my DGS Victoria sponge cake. I prefer cinnamon or nutmeg flavoured rice pud.
Chilli chicken thighs, along with herby potato mash and green string beans all from my freezer for dinner tonight, only two weeks this Friday before i go on holiday so eating as much as I can from indoors and shopping as least as possible :j:j

OH did the shopping on Saturday as i was away. Which is great, but he doesn't necessarily buy sensible things..
"what meals have you bought" say i
"hmm... well I bought a pizza, some garlic bread and fish fingers"
He bought one pizza - there are four of us - two things of garlic bread (which we don't really eat) and a box of fish fingers. For a week.. No vegetables, no fruit (oh, I lie, he bought a bag of frozen blackberries)
Nevertheless, i am determined to shop little and use up what we have. The whole Brexit business means i am going to replenish stores but i am going to run them down first so that they are fresher (if that makes sense).
We usually do 'meat free Monday' so I need to be a bit inventive. Although it being a bit cooler may help as i can make something 'heavier'. I am thinking cheese and lentil loaf with the dregs of the salad that we have (am i selling it well?)I wanna be in the room where it happens0
