    Good evening everyone,
Glad you had a good holiday Brambling and no you can never have too many books to read:).
Nissin or KOKO noodles are IMHO pretty good but yes added "bits" are definitely needed.;) I find both brands frequently pop up on SO in Tesco and I keep an eye out for when they do and stock up.
Mission accomplished in both library going and buying liver. As an added bonus it actually stopped raining and I got home dry:). I'll have the liver tomorrow night for dinner. While in the butcher's I bought some smoked bacon ribs for the freezer. They sell decent ones and the ribs make brilliant soup. I was pretty done in when I got home so decided that bending/standing in the garden & greenhouse wasn't the most sensible option and had a quiet afternoon. My sis popped round for a bit for a cuppa & a catch up and went home with a largeish bag of ripe toms. :) After she left I finalised my online order and finally prepped and froze the lurking garden beans I picked this week. I'm not needing much by way of supplies just some cupboard staples and fresh bits, I made up the order value with some wine as I have a family weekend coming up and extra supplies will be needed;):D. (Oh for the days when the kids were happy with a glass of squash and a a choc ice:rotfl::rotfl:)
Easy dinner tonight from my meal plan - sliced ham, fried egg, potato waffle, beans, toms & mushrooms with a splosh of HP on top. I've not had this in ages and I'm looking forward to it.:) The spare beans will be lunch tomorrow.

Yesterday I had the 2nd lot of curry from the 2-portion-bag bought from Mr T's for £5.

This one was jalfrezi. Not impressed. Chicken quality/texture was better than in the korma, but I was still "fearing" eating it as the first portion grossed me out.

Wasn't overly keen on the sauce, left 1-2 spoons of that.

The rest was "meh; typical supermarket cheap curry".

To get over the disappointment I tackled the 2nd of the 4-pack of After Eight Mousses. They're nice enough, 4-for-£1 makes them a nice cheap little dessert to pick up, but the mousse bit is really too "airy" overall to be satisfying.

I was utterly stuffed by then as I'd also managed to nibble my way through a double decker choc bar, 4-5 mini bounty bars and half the bag of peanuts.

    Good morning everyone,

It's wet & windy here again this morning but supposed to dry up a bit later on. If it does I want to start clearing up the veg patch for winter. If not I've plenty of indoor stuff I can get on with.
Beans on toast for lunch to use the spare beans from last night and liver & bacon with onion gravy, mash and veg for dinner.
  • Thanks for waste not want not advice, never thought of that with the cream as I seldom use in main recipes. Portion of piri piri beef mince out of freezer to have with pasta, had barnsley chop last night, very nice, think I will get some chicken out for tomorrow.
  • I'm having baked potato with baked beans for brunch. I had to have a few crackers as it is taking ages to cook!:D

I'm making a veggie chilli later.:)

Enjoy! :D Oven cook I'm assuming hence the time ? They do seem to take longer if you are in a hurry / in more need of it too.

Last one I had, just put a tiny blob of gravy (yes I know) in it instead of more usual blob of butter/marg merely for the change. :)

Did not do my A1d shop investigation earlier this morning, unfortunately rain stopped play on my way out to somewhere else so I had to give it a miss. I don't mind the soaking on the way back (it happens) but on the way there, erm no thanks if I can avoid it I will.

On a different note FF was mentioned the other day, a leaflet dropped through the door earlier today although it was one of their smaller ones rather than the more usual fold-out affair, not a great deal in it for me but they are a bit too far away anyway.

    Yes. I don't actually have a microwave!:p

It was delicious, though, exactly what I fancied to eat.

  • I part boiled a whole 500g of small potatoes yesterday, I am finding that they re-heat easily in several ways, fried today in rapeseed oil and were yummy with lidl pickled herrings and sliced radish, not much veg left in the house thank goodness. Strawberries and blueberries with lo yoghurt and bit of 70% chocolate

So I made some delish veg soup the other day, all in the processor and added dorset spice shed chefs secret, which they sold in my local store. Best taste ever. Having that soup later with some toast

Welcome back Brambling, glad you enjoyed your break and playing with the traffic

Getting Autumnal today, noticed some trees are alos looking a bit yellowy now

Into L's this morning, main thing I wanted was XXL 5 pack size of rump steaks, I've had them before & like them once bashed and marinated. I bought two packs now I know how much freezer space I have

Plus a 20p YS 6 pack of hot dog rolls, which will see me over this weekend, and some not kit kats
Now in a quandary, should I have steak or gammon joint this weekend? I'll decide tomorrow morning

Lunch was couple of the YS rolls with cheese & HM chutney filling

Last night's lamb shoulder chop was superb, only a bone left over:) I added mayo to the boiled Cyprus spuds as it was not a gravy sort of meal with salad

I'll repeat this tonight, except the spuds will be the cold LOs

Sudden realisation I'm off to Plymouth next week to visit brother in his Nursing home, and hopefully scoff cream tea & pasties

Oooh, sound interesting spices, I'll keep a look out in Ye Olde farm Shoppe as I we sometimes stop for cuppa around Bridport area on way West

    Good evening everyone,
Your soup sounds tasty pattypan, it's definitely getting to the time of year where I'm thinking about what type of soup to make rather than salad! Cooked or par boiled spuds are so handy, I often cook extra as they are so easy to use up in different ways. I wanted mash to have with my liver tonight so cooked the remains of a bag of King Edwards which has made between 2 & 3 portions depending on how [STRIKE]greedy [/STRIKE] hungry I am.:) I cba making one portion of mash, if I only have enough spuds for that I'll just have them another way. I prefer to cook spuds for mash in the pressure cooker with as little water as possible as I think it gives a better result and I'm not popping 1 or 2 spuds in that! I'll use one portion tonight and if I have LO veg from dinner I might make B&S tomorrow.

The weather flip-flopped between brief sunshine and heavier longer lasting showers so I didn't get any gardening done. It seems to have dried up now and has turned quite chilly but it's supposed to be dry tomorrow so fingers crossed.

I thoroughly enjoyed my beans on toast for lunch. I cooked an OOD egg that needed using up (sell by 16/08 but passed the float test just fine;)) in them. I don't have baked beans that often but always enjoy them when I do, probably because I don't have them that often:rotfl:.

Tonight's dinner of liver, bacon, onions, mash, savoy cabbage, peas & gravy is all prepped and just needs cooking which won't take long. A glass of red will be poured to have with it:D.
