Kittie, I think I'm just tight. I'm also a CFO but it would break my heart to buy something as simple as macaroni cheese, let alone pay £6 or £7 for a posh one. My go to CBA meals are bacon and egg, an omelette or tuna pasta.

I don't believe either of are tight we just choose where we spend our money :). personally I don't really like brought RMs like you I have quick cba meals, and HM RM in the freezer. The nearest to a ready meal I buy are 'emergency' pouches of rice I like the Tilda brown and quinoa which is always on offer somewhere for the really lazy days when I don't want to cook even rice :) and can chop up some red pepper, add sweetcorn and a tin of fish, and really handy if I haven't organised lunch for work, not used very often but a handy stand by.

I confess to occasionally using that Tilda brown rice and quinoa too. Shouldnt really - as it's got oil in and I try to keep my use of oil to a minimum - but oh well....when cba strikes....

It's summer here today - so just been out for a walk and was actually feeling a bit hot:D. Then walked back into my garden and thought "I swear everything's grown a bit more even since first thing this morning:D". The difference between my garden and others nearby is now very strikingly apparent - it feels like one is walking into a "sea of green" now - which is just what I intended it to feel like and I'm still working on getting it even more so. Most gardens in my immediate vicinity feel very "barren" to me - with all their concrete and tarmac and not much garden-like about them imo.

Right - time for a bit of lunch I guess and I've got a bit leftover of an oil-free hummus recipe I made and must try it out "bare" straight on toast - to see if I can work my way into not using bread spread on my bread/toast any longer (which would avoid some oil I'm having regularly).

    Good afternoon everyone,

That's my "holiday" over and my son has headed off. The weather is still glorious but too hot to be out in my back garden just now until some shady spots appear later.
I do keep the odd bought RM in the freezer as a back up for any spells where I'm off my feet but apart from that RMs tend to be "here's one I made earlier" jobs.
I had a lovely roast lamb dinner at my sister's last night preceded by a couple of G&Ts in her garden, a lovely end to what had been a really enjoyable few days. :D

Lunch today was a roll with corned beef, salad and pickle and I think tonight I'll cook salmon with aparagus, broccoli & jersey royals.

Phew, today is the scorcher, up early to continue the volunteer gardening in the cool of the morning. Geraniums planted in pots

Breakfast first, first hit into my fresh pineapple, I had some with sliced banana, honey & HM yoghurt

Into town, nothing YS worth having, Asda seems to have over ordered burgers again, loads YS, not for me though, I've had my share of gristle this week from the YS sausage rolls:(

It's was over 95F in the conservatory, that's with door & windows open. Good old pedestal fan, at least it wafts the hot air about

Lunch was back to cheese & salady sarnie

Dinner is not quite CBA, I'm using up last of the cold boiled spuds, sliced in omelette, with last of the corned beef, shallots and a sliced tom

Talking of toms, the YS posh toms I bought, are now tasty after a day or so, saved some seed to try for 2019

Money, your garden sounds nice, sounds a bit like my style, green and jungly for me

I've always wanted a conservatory .. sat in one a couple of times, but never owned one. I see them as "light outside space where you can sit and not get blown away and not get wet if it rains".

I'm having a bit of a bad day .... and then I went to L1dl to "just get" two items: a cheese/onion quiche (£1.35) and the usual pack of 6 sausage rolls (99p). Both were sold out. Bummer. So I wandered around and then spotted fish cakes I'd not seen before, 10/£1.25 so I got a box of those - and then I did something really out of character...I bought my first "tub of ice cream" for about 30 years! No idea why I did it except I was dissatisfied with my day before I went in there, then dissatisfied that they didn't have what I went in for - and, as the shop was closing soon, I figured I'd "get a bit down" if I had nothing thoroughly out of the usual and luxurious.... it's a 480ml tub of Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream, £1.69. Had a bit, it's tasty enough.

Earlier today I'd gone into 4ldi - they were sold out of my favourite bread rolls ... so I had to buy "normal ones" .... and I stupidly also grabbed a bag of salad (I swore blind the other week never to do that again) as my head was thinking "burger, bit of salad, cheese, splash of ketchup, chips" - but when I got home I didn't fancy burger - AND - I'd run out of cheese (which I should've remembered when I went to L1dl but it's only just occurred to me).

So, all in all, a very dissatisfying day that's very disfunctional and peculiar.

It's hot hot hot here.... but nowhere to go/no point going out/can't go out "just for the sake of it" without a plan as it's FULL of people EVERYWHERE.
  • One of the plus sides of living here at any rate - as part of my walk out round town - I went through 4 different park type areas (during this hot sunny weather we're having here) and there was absolutely no-one at all in any of them.

Though it could be down to there being quite a few nice beaches round here and I've only once seen one of them what I would describe as "busy" since moving here. So maybe that's where everyone was? Being a Bank Holiday I wasn't even going to look and see if any buses were running here - I just took it that they probably aren't and hence I wasn't at a beach myself (have found one that is walking distance from me - but the others are either a bus ride away or inaccessible to someone without their own car).

Anyways - think I might just wander off to corner shop and buy myself a cool beer. My excuse this time - all the better to go "plotting and planning" further work in the garden with:).

Found two of my sweet potatoes that I was rather thinking might be part of dinner have "gone over". Waste not, want not - and I've duly cut them both in half and planted them in the garden - to see whether I get any sweet potato vines from them or no.

I had the rain here around 8.30 last night, not for long though so the garden is still dry , I'll wait a bit longer then water a few bits from the water butt.
I needed to check I still live in the north west England, as the weather has been boiling for days now!
Too hot to do anything though, I've got a good base tan for my holiday! Even with factor 30 and keeping out of the main sun of the day.
Just had gf cornflakes for breakfast, then Greek yogurt with kiwi and raspberries for lunch .
I've had tinned salmon, with big salad, egg and jacket spud with a treat of glass of prosecco, lo from bbq a few weeks ago, about a third of a bottle was left in fridge, I had a glass on Friday with my curry.
It keeps fab with a little gadget from a Xmas cracker !!!
Had a bad sleep last night despite going to bed reading till 12.30am. So hoping for better tonight.

    Good evening everyone,

Despite the sun being lower now it's still really warm. It was 33C in the semi-shade of my deck at 4pm so I dread to think what it was in my kitchen/conservatory! Too hot to for me to linger for any length of time. I can't believe I'm moaning about it being too warm after months of grumping about the cold:o. I'll blame one of my meds as it affects your temperature regulation.;) After lurking in the cooler part of my house for a bit after lunch, I managed to wedge myself into a shadyish part of the garden and lounged there for a bit with my feet dangling in a builder's bucket of water and a pint of iced water- bliss:D. Much as I miss working, thankfully I don't need to deal with working in a hot office these days:cool:.

It's to be a little cooler tomorrow with a breeze so I might actually get some gardening done.

It's just about cool enough to contemplate cooking dinner, thankfully I don't need to put the oven on. :)I'll need to tomorrow though as I bought some lovely rainbow beetroot on Saturday that I want to roast.

    Evening

The threatened storm never arrived and I had brought my bedding in before I went out for lunch shame as it would be dry now :o. It's been another hot day and we could probably do with a storm to clear the air.

It was good to catch up at lunch which lasted until 8pm :D lasagna, salad and homemade baguettes for lunch and luckily it wasn't me who forgot that one of the vegetarians is a vegan and therefore either desserts would do (key lime pie and strawberry cheesecake) so she had the strawberries intended for the cheesecake topping.

I don't need a dinner other than a quick snack or I'll wake up in the night hungry. Just need to think quickly what to do for lunch tomorrow
