They're bigguns and hold their shape/texture well.

I'd previously tried Iceland and Aldi, both of which are smaller and a bit "sloppy".

I nuke them. Flat/separated, 1 minute x3-4 times, turning each time.

Quick trip to Aldi's en route round town and I've just tried out (and approved) a quinoa snack bar. A try-out for some time was tagliatelle with spring onions in - headed for the larder.

Stirfry planned for tonight - veg to use up (carrots and courgette and chard and some RATHER expensive tomatoes - ie home-grown specialist organic) and I'll have some mushrooms in with that and chives scattered on top.

Mini bottle of wine destined to go with it - my excuse this time is it's tourist season now/nice weather today and so cue for obviously having turned into a walking guide to places to see/b & b's to stay in/public loos/etc/etc. Yep...I duly did have appropriate answers to all questions received.:rotfl: Just hope no-one asks me where to eat out - as then I will be stumped - I can think of places, but notalotta recommendations on that front to say the least. I can tell them a few places to go for lunch I use - but places for dinner out....erm...erm....erm...

I've not eaten since yesterday lunch, a cup of tea 6.30pm last night triggered the start of a raging toothache so I'm tired, grumpy and missing my mugs of tea today :(:( emergency dentist appt this afternoon gave me a choice of tooth out or root canal with crown which she worried might not work due to the filling size, so I'm sitting here still numb minus a tooth (it was right at the back) and I'm hungry. It will help with the diet :rotfl:

Need to rethink meal plans as I'll have to be careful next couple of days, will need to rummage in fish selection of freezer I think

    Good evening everyone,

Ouch re the tooth Brambling <<hugs>>
It's obviously been my week for breaking or dropping things, I managed to bang the zimmer I use in the house & garden off a fence post and have mangled one of the wheels which consequently wouldn't stay on:(. I have alternatives but this is the one I use most my other two are too heavy for constant use. A replacement has been ordered (thank you Amazon:)) and will be here next week. I could have contacted the local Social Care team but tbh I'd rather sort myself out so I can chose what I want & get it quickly. Meantime is a real "Blue Peter" job involving a thin piece of wood (aka plant stick trimmed), knotted string and some duct tape.... It's not pretty but it's working so hopefully it will last until the new one arrives.

My sister & nephew were here earlier collecting some surplus garden chairs so a cuppa & a natter were had in the late sunshine. Dinner is a going to be a quick and easy one of a cornish pasty, runner beans and kale all from the freezer. That will be the last of last year's runners scoffed, I do hope I get as good a crop this year.:)

Breakfast this morning was the same as yesterday.... two hash browns, 2 scrambled eggs, baked beans, sausages, brown sauce, black coffee.

I started a bit of painting yesterday (I'm rubbish at it) and after some false starts (me fail + equipment fail) I think I can bear to continue with it. It's not "whole walls", but smallish areas/walls, but "round things" - and I HATE being up a ladder, especially trying to be up a ladder in the downstairs loo, wobbling with a bit of paint on a paintbrush (then roller, then pad) ... with the tin of paint on the floor.

I think I'm "more organised" now and have found a plastic lidded takeaway box to contain the paint I'm using, which the pad fits into, or the brush can be dipped into.

The trouble with me is I do a bit then have to stop and walk away (hate doing it) ... so opening whole cans and pouring vast quantities into a large roller tray, then using a big roller to roll away at an entire wall isn't on the agenda. These are small areas, I wobble up a ladder .... so I don't need much paint at a time.

    how is the tooth brambling?

Breakfast was fine, cooked pasta bake plus cabbage and some peas. Just had a juice, one of those gulp it down-don`t taste juices because of the bit of fresh ginger. I only add ginger because it is good for the stomach, love it cooked but too hot raw. Am all cleaned up and prepped for lunch. Clives tart, sliced tomato and thin sliced fennel plus I have small mushrooms to use and have sliced those with a bit of sliced red onion, now in cider vinegar to marinade for a bit.

One big beetroot is pressure cooking, I have 3 more in the fridge but they keep longer uncooked. Might have a couple of slices with lunch

Dropping and banging Caronc, sometimes wish the clock could be wound back just a few minutes. I will never forget the large full pot of loose leaf tea that I dropped on carpet, in the 70s

    Good morning everyone,
:eek: re the spilling tea kittie that must have been a nightmare to get out.

My worst (to date) spill was a dish of raspberry coulis on a pale grey carpet:o, when I was first married our kitchen was tiny, no more than a cupboard really so the fridge/freezer was in the living room which had said carpet. I opened the fridge door and managed to miss the shelf flipping the stuff everywhere. We never completely got the stain out....

Beautifully sunny here again today so I'm hoping to get more done in the garden as well as just enjoying the sunshine. Hopefully I'll get the final batches of toms potted into to next size pots and start popping those that will be grown in baskets into them.

I've no food plans as such so will be sticking to quick and easy meals.:)

Second helping of yesterdays stirfry coming up. Think I'll have it for lunch instead of dinner. Not thought about dinner yet.

Decent weather here today - bright/calm/sunny/warm = great relief to me.

Think I shall be planting up a few more seeds today in the garden. Bucksthorn Plantain and Japanese Beefsteak Vegetable are starting to show their heads. Have also planted seeds for things like Sea Beet and Alexanders (so that I have some readily to hand).

The New Zealand Spinach isnt showing its head yet. Since potting it up - I've read it's one of the ones that should be soaked overnight before planting. Duh - think I'll start off a couple more seeds of it then - this time soaking them first. It's only supposed to take 60 days from start to ready it seems - so I'd have thought I'd see signs by now. One of the YouTube videos about it shows it sprawling around everywhere acting as groundcover in someone's garden and she just pulled up any of it she didnt want "just like that". Think that's about what I want it to do. Am also thinking (like Caron) that it should be an ideal plant for "singles" like us - ie grabbing a few leaves as and when we want them and should be versatile.

Think it could be a useful theme for us on here as to what food we can grow that is "suitable for singles". Now, on that theme, rhubarb counts as a fruit that is imo - seems to thrive on neglect pretty much and one can just grab a stalk as and when and any surplus chopped/bagged/put in freezer and one plant is enough to give plenty.

I'm aiming to grow my NZ spinach up a trellis rather than let it sprawl, my friends' NZ pal does it that way so it doesn't take over.
I'm waiting arrival of a rhubarb crown, should be here early next week:)Things that work for me as CFO are sowing small batches of veg that you can succession sow like peas, beans, radish, pak choi etc. or "cut and come" again greens. I think with CFO it's all about scale - how much will be ready at once, if a lot can I/do I want to freeze or preserve it? In my old dog's bed base which is about 1m x 0.75m I've currently got radishes, snowball turnip, salad leaves and pak choi started. Not huge amounts but I'll sow more of each in another tub in a couple of weeks and so on until probably the end of July.

I've just hardboiled eggs for lunch which I'll have with tomato in the last roll. I've taken a cooked "buttermilk baked" chicken thigh out for tonight. I've not decided what to have with it yet.

It's really warm out in my back garden so I've had to retreat inside for a bit until the sun moves over a bit. I'll head back out in a couple of hours.:)

Tooth or lack of is a lot better thanks Kittie I was given the painkiller talk by the dentist but haven't needed any so far but I have been on soft diet, scrambled egg has featured twice and I'm avoiding poking it with my tongue :D

I'm accident prone so there are too many spillage instances to mention:rotfl: although the most painful was a tin of paint attached to me falling off a step stool  so be careful PN the broken rib took 6 weeks to heal :o and I had to get help to finish. Luckily the carpet was being replaced :rotfl:

Lovely day today, walk round town for a couple of hours, got some salad bits and some lovely English strawberries in the farmers market so they will be after dinner with some Greek yogurt

Just off to check the fridge for lunch, not fancying more eggs, I've taken some salmon out for dinner I might do teriyaki salmon with stir fry rice although I do have some asparagus and jersey royals so I'll decide later.
