As I'd bought a pack of six sausage rolls yesterday .... and ate four of them.....
I've just had two hot sausage rolls
Pack gone.0 -
Half a cup of tea and a bowl of muesli with almond milk so far today.0

Thought I`d shop today to beat the Easter crowds, was sadly wrong as think the whole world and its Granny were in Asda today. It was heaving, pushing shoving all the way. I think the 20p veg offer drew a lot more custom than usual but even so from the amount of food people were shovelling in their trolleys you would have thought the stores were closing for a month not just one day. Long queues at checkouts, big squash in lift standing room only on bus home. All for £3.40 worth of shopping.Slimming World at target0

It'll be Xmas all over again .... I've noticed they're "promoting Easter as a big event" to flog more food, just like the Xmas ads.
To be fair, growing up we always had a "Xmas Dinner" on Easter Sunday, but that just meant we had turkey instead of chicken, it didn't mean all the other stuff (no tree, decorations, crackers, special desserts, treats galore etc) .... we just had a turkey Sunday lunch.
But now the "big boys" have got Easter in their sights like Xmas v2 it'll be torment.
I've to pop out for some bread rolls. I wasn't planning anything special on Easter Sunday .... not at all.
So, the question is, will their constant marketing make me feel "a little bit guilty"? I doubt it. I could decide, randomly at the last minute, to make a giant yorkie and fill it with chicken/stuffing and random veggies.0 -
Back again, Easter eggs bought so all set for Sunday. PN, Egg hunts are new one on me as well, we never had them either. First I came across them was with the Grandchildren. At least they enjoy it
I bought the EEs in Sainsbobs, no crowds, but bit longer queues. One of the assistants took pity on poor old codger with his stick and directed me and my cart to the baskets only checkout, which was manned but minus customers:)
Just in case of mad Easter panics I topped up with diesel at same time. Now I am all set and have no real need to go out again until next week.
For lunch I decided not to mix the mackerel in, just had it with cuc & lettuce in a sandwich
Dinner is some of the YS L's family size mince & onion pie, I think with steamed frozen veg of some sortNumerus non sum0 -
I'm cutting back on the Easter treats, for calorie reasons. I've also been sent some meal replacement shake to review - with a very nice shaker - so will be having that regularly instead of brekky and lunch. I've had quite a few meal replacement products to review, and even when we factor writing the review into account, they save me so much time.
I wish I still had our ex Army can openers. The ex worked in R.Signals stores. so a few came our way over the years. Mum's was free with a tin of Heinz beans, and we supplied her with a replacement, when it was lost.
'Scran' seems a NE thing too, as well as a Forces one.
The can openers came from 24 hour ration packs, for use on exercise. Half used boxes often came our way.
Back in the day, everything was tinned or in packets and some things were better than others. The coffee was vile, the tea was marginally better.
The oatmeal cereal biscuits were the forerunners of Hob Nobs, and to die for.
The chicken curry was first-class, not so the tinned meat, apart from the Bacon Grill, which was the commercial product, and jolly nice. I became very adept at disguising the tinned sausages, which were good in sausage and egg pie and Toad in the Hole. Made using the powdered milk for the batter.
Thinking of having some roast chicken for tea, with carrot and swede puree. That will give me some cold chicken to Do Something With, I suspect the something will be a risotto or orzotto (pearl barley risotto).
Edit. When I was thinking about it, I realised how much I missed my old Army can openers.
I looked on Amazon, and they are there, so I ordered one for me, and one each for my daughter and son as well.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

I liked that type, but if everything fails I still have a stab tin top one, then work way round the rim, leaving a nice jagged rip thumb open edge:eek:Numerus non sum0 -

I envy your L/mince&onion .... I do find those tastier/more moist and much more enjoyable than the steak ones... and then I wonder if that's because I'm just a peasant who doesn't appreciate steak, or if they're genuinely nicer
My first one of these, I'll make a bit of granule gravy to go with itNumerus non sum0 -
I need a "chunky handle" on a tin opener. About 11/12 years ago I bought one at Asda for about £4-5 or so.... works a treat. As I have tiny hands I really need to get a good grip and give it a go. Being small I don't have much body weight to chuck behind actions, so chunkier grips/handles on things work best for me when trying to apply my best efforts.
This looks like mine, looks like they don't sell them any more!
