Holidays are another of the issues that face singles it's true.

On top of the cost of the holiday itself - we usually have to pay that "dreaded Single Supplement".

So future holidays will either be in this country (be it home visits or a new-to-me area) or have to be rather long ones (ie allowing for the extra time it takes to get there by other methods than a plane). "Slow Travel" is the phrase I want...

    .

My holidays have mainly been UK, being ex RN, and yet more travelling once in civvy street and having seen & done lots of places & things, and the insides of more airports than I cared to, I decided to see parts of the UK that I had never seen, such as Gretna Green, Lake District, York, Cheddar Gorge, inside Buckingham Palace, Parliament etc Very touristy most of time, but I was a tourist.

I chose not to drive but use all in coach holidays, with plenty of leg room, luxury ones, pick up & drop off at door, luggage and meals sorted etc. I deliberately choose the no SS options

I have never liked just sitting on beaches, even Bondi or on tropical islands

    Back to CFO

For my blue cheese option I chose mature Stilton, first tasting tonight
The only YS items in L were p2 packs of fresh fish, but the packaging defeats using one fillet & storing, so left them on the shelf

Lunch was back to cheese salady sarnie
Dinner will be the very last of my cauli soup, with new Stilton crumbed in.
That YS 50p cauli had performed well. 4 meals, 3 days worth. But happy today is it's final fling

Made another batch of yoghurt which is now yoging in the yoghurter
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

I`m another who finds single holidays problematic, I had one decent holiday after hubbie died, I was not confident enough to make my own way anywhere so I went on a saga cruise, picked up at the door. It really did cost an arm and a leg and I quickly saw the future as an oldie, nice though they were but it was not me. I spent 2 full days in my cabin because of the sideways and up and down motion together and I thought I was picking a nice cabin with a seaview and at the front :o never again

I have been on a few days getting hobby tuition and that was very good but all my holidays from now on will be luxury coach and like farway, picked up at the door. I too want to explore the uk

So tummy wasn`t too happy with salad, I think it is cucumber that does it. I just threw a tummy happy meal together in my rice cooker, basmati, ginger, omboshi plum, celery, sweet potato and dries soya. I know that my tum is always calm after that

Ive been on a couple of nice holidays with solo type firms. Been almost the oldest, but I've so far avoided saga as I don't really want to be with the ultra wrinklies.

I'd nearly finished a jar of choc spread... so I got a spoon to scrape it out .... and then I ran to get another/new jar out ... and opened it .... and came to my senses, so just took one big dip of a teaspoon out of it and put it down again :)

For the record, ~2100 calories in a whole 400g jar ... so it's "doable" if one wishes :)

Now New Zealand is a place I do toy with the idea of visiting sometimes - as it does look very attractive. I've got the vague idea one can get there/back on a ship (albeit taking several weeks to do so). All part of the experience I guess. Can't really recall several weeks at a go that I spent as a child going from one country my father was posted in to another - but I'm presuming it was a nice experience (or I wouldnt be thinking of it off and on now).

    Food-wise for the day:
    - I've been eating my way through some more of the banana/oat cookies. Not convinced I'll try them again though - perhaps a bit too "basic" and dry really for me.
    - So I did get round to doing those stuffed portobello mushrooms with mushroom gravy for dinner. Verdict - yep...nice. I'd not got round to thinking what to do with them (so it was just as well I'd been having those cookies then....). For future reference I reckon I could do them with baked potato wedges. Then realised there wouldn't be enough colour on my plate (with just green and brown). Okay - make that adding some steamed carrots as well then...

Think I was more focused on the fact I'd been starting-up the gardening for the year - culminating in wondering what I was hitting under the ground with my spade. Various things previous owners didn't dig up then.....which included a small sealed medicine bottle with black liquid in. Hmm...wonders what that is.....could be innocent explanation (cue for me thinking about the evangelical Christian friend that helped me move over to Wales back when/did a quick whistlestop tour of my new area and pronounced it feels a bit "witchy" to him). Errrm....I was hoping he wouldn't notice that - as I already had noticed and it does a bit imo....

    Good evening everyone,

All this talk of holidays has really got me yearning for one, not on the cards at the moment but when I can it will be to visit offspring:). My aim for this year is to manage a couple of day trips to somewhere exotic like Girvan or Largs :rotfl::rotfl:

MTSTM - how intriguing re the bottle are you going to get the contents analysed? In my last house we dug out a hedge there was all sorts under in it including rather sadly the skeleton of a cat and remains of a blanket around it. It must have been a much loved pet:(.

I'm keeping dinner simple tonight and having the last of the cauli cheese from the freezer with a baked spud and either peas or runner beans. Ratatouille will get made tomorrow:)

After a bit of a think I've more or less decided to get a cleaner. Not very :money: and will involve a bit of budget tweaking but I'm struggling to keep on top of the heavier chores. I used a local company for a deep clean before so I'm going to see if they can do a regular slot for me. I won't need it every week so once or twice a month should be enough to cover the bits I can't do. ;)

I had some beautiful holidays with hubby, and I'm very grateful we did now.
I love this country but found that to holiday in the UK was so much more expensive than abroad, In the last 10 years our hols were long haul as they were cheaper than short.

I've had jacket spud with cheese and the beans that were open, with tomatoes and onion..
Shared some tortilla chips with cheese melted on with dgson.
I ate the last millionaire cake with a cup of tea.
1 satsuma eaten with my yogurt and seeds after the hm soup at lunch.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

Spirit good luck getting a cat sitter, my niece looks after mine when I'm away. Totally understand you need to trust someone to look after the fur baby.
