As far as I know, only RBS/NatWest and Barclays let you have the money early.
Add YB/CB to those. But I agree, most were denying access until Monday.

Are you Lizzy Borden, hiding away “downstairs” at a posh house? ;)

I’m Dave, the second half of my postcode is 5PY.

What can you find out about me? Explain what anyone, even GCHQ could do with just those details...

Dave ive got to ask...what on earth is Chump Productions...lol
  • I have just found the same thing and like you am angry. What concerns me most is that it says that money due to be paid out at the weekend i.e. direct debits won't be paid out now until the Monday. It worries me that a payment that one month falls due on a Saturday or Sunday will not now be paid until the Monday, meaning it will be late. As someone who has recently guaranteed a loan with a Company that I do not trust I fear they will use it to try and extract more money. I contacted the message service of Nat West and they said that all banks were going to be doing this to bring them in line with EU rules. I would like Martin Lewis to comment.

No payments go out your account on a Saturday or Sunday so no need for the anger.

I'm with RBS and it's always been the case that although a direct debit showed on my account on the Saturday the money physically didn't leave my account and was dated the Monday.

So in regard to direct debits nothing has changed, they will still be debited from your account on the next working day ie Monday

If you've guaranteed a loan with a company you don't trust, then more fool you if you have problems with them.

NatWest/RBS are just bringing their systems into line with the way that most banks have always worked.

In banking terms Saturday and Sunday do not exist.

Natwest's system used to change from Friday to Monday on Friday night/early hours of Saturday morning.

Now it changes from Friday to Monday on Sunday night/early hours of Monday morning.

I'm now puzzled. Bank transfers done on a weekend from one banking group to another have been going through instantly for me recently. The money appears seconds later in the target account. So is this all now changing, if 'weekends don't exist in banking' anymore?
