It's when you sign into your Google account when setting up the phone.
Google own Android.
I think I rejected any Google setup/login on initial phone setup.
I just signed into my email account later.0 -
Only if you've told it to back up to your google account
Could have (and preferably should have) been saved on SIM card...0 -

Can't understand why people would still store on a sim card only, apart from the restrictions, they do go wrong. What if you change providers? I hated keying everything back in. I for one don't care if Google does know that I I have the number for my Auntie Gladys.
It's great that you can back up virtually all of your phone and put it back after a reset or new phone0 -

I may be a little old-fashioned on this, but the way google (and apple) have kinda taken over the way your info is handled/used/profited from I think is pretty scandalous, hell some android phones don't even seem to have the ability to save contacts to a SIM any more.
The best and easiest phones I ever had at handling contacts were LG U880 and 300... move or copy contacts SIM-phone or phone-SIM... dead easy, straightforward and hassle-free. And yes, it's great having contacts on the SIM, as when I move that SIM around between phones the contacts are there, whatever phone it is..
If google/apple actually gave people things like that instead of putting all their efforts into finding ways to use your data, the world would be a better place.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
You can still choose on my Galaxy S8 where you want them stored.
Samsung Account
Phone
Sim Card
Google
Or add another account for storage.
Personally I use Google, That way I have my contacts on my phones, tablets and PC.
Each to their own and it's of no concern or bother to me which service anyone uses, but, putting them on the Sim seems to limit their use..
Everything else is backed up at the same time, so, logging in on a new phone I have everything to hand, seamlessly.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
