How long does paypal allow for delivery (dispute)?

Will just use this thread to share my recent experience with a paypal claim -
Buyer won an item on the 30th september, they did not respond or contact me after sending winning notification/payment request same day, and a polite payment reminder 3days later, in fact they didn't respond until 9days after when I opened a NPB dispute on the 9th.
Payment was then made very quickly though using a paypal confirmed address, though a rather snotty demand for me to remove the dispute immediately.
I decided I'd upgrade the postage to recorded delivery due to buyers attitude and the postal strike, didn't make too much of a dent in profits, but am pleased I did as less than a week later I got an email from paypal saying buyer had opened a dispute for non-delivery.
As I had the recorded delivery slip as proof of postage I immeadialty escalated the dispute to a claim and sent copies of the RD slip.
I won't go into the communication with the buyer, apart from saying they were quite rude, especially when I left them feedback stating they hadn't contacted me before raising a dispute.
Paypal got back to me within 48hours closing the claim as I had provided proof of postage, so now the buyer may realise they have no further negotiating left available to them and perhaps they will initiate contact with sellers in future before going straight to make a claim. I can live with the neg feedback, it only takes me down to 99.5%
I just wonder if they'd have been so quick to make a claim if I had told them it was being sent recorded??Do You Twitter?

I have to admit its a peet peeve of mine when a buyer immediately opens a dispute or leaves bad feedback without conting the seller first. By all means leave relevant feedback and open dispute if the seller does not help or ignores message etc, but at least let them know there is a problem first. And quite often those buyers quickest off the mark are the very ones who dragged their heels over paying or wanted to use a different payment method or wants extra discount AFTER buying (arghhhh).
 Soolin,
Thanks for that - am too nice for my own good (heheheh)- even on our website I send freebies, free delivery vouchers etc much to husbands disgust - my motto - Happy Customers Return! Simple as lolSome People Live & Learn, Some People Just Live...0

Slightly confused... surely if they didn't know it was sent RD, it meant they hadn't in fact received it? Wonder what the RM online tracking shows. My TV is broken!

RM online tracking is suspended currently due to them not having a clue where anything is!
As for the customer not actually receiving it yet, that may well be the case, but this customer has shot himself in the foot by making a claim too early. The fact that they only waited a week for delivery in the middle of the strike when they took over a week to make payment got my back up, and that they went straight to paypal to open a dispute rather than contacting myself first. Now that the claim has been made with paypal and resolved they will not be able to claim again, and as they have left feedback they have no bargaining power left.
If it wasn't for the abusive emails as well I may have been prepared to work with this customer to resolve this, though now I have no motivation to do so.Do You Twitter?

            @ rare_stuff i think you are a little confused.
i assume you tracked an RD item and it said it didnt know where they item presently was?
this is normal given RD items are not tracked until delivery0
-
Yeah, by the sound of it you got off lightly....
 1. Buyer would have been unlikely to open a dispute if he had received and signed for the item, so let's assume he didn't
 2. The tracking number wouldn't have counted in the dispute unless it had actually been tracked
 so, I surmise that either:
 a) Item arrived after buyer opened dispute, or.
 b) dispute was closed unfairly in your favour. My TV is broken!

I agree Fay, the implications that merely submitting an RD number is enough to stop a chargeback is frightening. All any one would have to do would be to keep a stock of blanks and work through the numbers without ever having posted anything.
I have assumed throughout that in the case mentioned above the buyer actually withdrew the complaint but having a re read I don't see why I assumed that :eek:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sending it recorded makes no difference to a dispute as it isn't posting that paypal are interested in it is delivery and of course anyone can supply a RD number. There is a misconception that a seller is safe by sending everything Recorded, this is not the case as only delivery matters and if you read some of the other threads on here at the moment you will see that in many instances recorded is never signed for on delivery . Also, it does appear that for some odd reason that we can't fathom recorded has been slower than standard post during the strike.
Gosh, didn't know that. What is the safest way for me to send a small kitchen appliance worth about £85 when the buyer has paid by paypal. Don't envisage a dispute but just want to be 100% within the chargeback rules in case.
 Thanks.0
