Cheapest Tube Travel?
Options

Spending the weekend in London and trying to decide what's cheaper:
Using contactless
Or
Travel Day Card (and I have a 16-25 railcard).
Which is the cheaper option for zones 1-2?
Does anyone know how much these both cost and the caps for contactless on the Tube?

Definitely contactless. Then if you decide to travel outside zone 2 then you could without having to do an extension. Contactless is the same as using oyster and can be cheaper than a travel card if you don't travel a lot in one day. It can be used on any transport - buses, tube and even the thames clipper boat and even the cable cars (but those last 2 cost a fair bit more).0

A guy in the ticket office at Kew Gardens tube told me that if you use your debit card the system automatically charges you the cheapest option. (The downside was that the system went wrong, and it was a PITA claiming refunds.)0

My daughter has her 16-25 travelcard linked to her oyster (done at the tube station) so she gets cheaper off peak daily caps. Its is £4.50 for a zone1-2 off peak cap instead of £6.80.

You would have to pay a £5 refundable deposit for Oyster which you would get back with any small amount left (larger amounts have to reclaimed via post) on the card if you return it before you leave at a tube station office (or you could keep it for future use if you come to London again) .
If you don't want to bother with the Oyster card then a contactless bank will give the same rates as oyster but you won't have the railcard discount.0 -
Get an Oyster card. £5 and then discounts are immediate.0

Balance between the convenience of contactless and the ability to apply your 16-25 railcard discount to your oyster.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I didn't know you can attach a railcard discount to a contactless credit/debit card, thought you could only attach it to an Oyster.0
