School Trip to USA

Hi All
Son is off to USA in a couple of months on a school trip (lucky so and so!) and i was wondering what the best way of using his money aborad is. He will need to take some cash, withdraw cash, but also need the security of most money being on a card. I have been looking at prepaid cards but are these OK for U18's and what if any restrictions apply?
