Mersey gateway bridge???

I drove over a bridge that had a toll for £2 twice while dropping someone off at liverpool airport, and then returning home to manchester..
I went that way only following my sat nav.
I didnt actually know utill now that theres was a toll ( i woulndnt have known the bridge was new or not!)
however I have had a letter giving me a penalty. and saying i now owe £44 which will increase in 14 days..
I know its not a lot of money but Im frustrated.
Im being penalized for not noticing signs in the dark while travelling 50mph in showery rain..
Does anyone have any experience of this?
I dont think this is acceptable yet i feel compelled to pay because the longer i leave it, the bigger and bigger it will become...

i just think before your accused of not paying a bill and being penalised,
i should be given a bill0 -
You might be able to overturn a toll penalty by phoning them. There have been reports of the Dartford Crossing waiving penalties for first time offenders who had no idea, and are happy to pay just the toll fee. All done by phone.
Try it, and let us know.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

On the bright side, you've got a very good satnav if it's updated already to include the new bridge ... Maybe investigate the settings on said satnav to see if there is an option to "avoid toll roads" so that you don't get caught this way again.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

thats about 5 seconds more than your replies are worth.
Don’t understand that? Care to explain? Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

I have now removed any posts and links that were made to the OP inc the one that ridiculed his "you say "fair enough. . so how come its £50
and they say "well you didnt pay within the hour
and £44 charge
on there website they clearly state "If you have not paid the toll in full by midnight the day after you cross the new Mersey Gateway Bridge,
and "The penalty charge of £40 will be reduced to £20 if you pay within 14 days of the date of service of the penalty charge notice. You must also pay the outstanding toll. The Penalty Charge Certificate will give you details on how to pay the penalty charge and outstanding toll"
but hay ho , the OP knows better ,,,,,,,,,,,,Save a Rachael

But this is exactly what the forum is all about. We know, we agree.
You misunderstood some replies as being against you, when we are for the motorist against such penalties.
I would ring again and hope for another clerk...PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
