Would setting up half a dozen or so new accounts in the 8 weeks between now and when the interest in my Online Saver drops in July been seen as dodgy or put a mark against me?
I just want to spread my money around!!0 -

Please could anyone tell me which banks offer internet banking where you don't need to have a mobile phone? I ask because I live in a remote area with no reception! So for me, the best bank account is one I can actually use! (I hate telephone banking because I always seem to get the moron who can't type in 3 pieces of data to set up a new SO correctly). They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

Of the banks I use for internet banking, Lloyds, Halifax and TSB verify new payees by an automated telephone system and warn/notify by text. Santander do the same all via text messages. RBS, Natwest, FirstDirect and Yorkshire I've not done enough with to be sure. HSBC, which I do quite a bit with, haven't ever called or texted. Neither has Nationwide.
Of the web systems accessed via a PC, Santander I find the easiest to use efficiently. Then Natwest, Lloyds/Halifax/TSB (same site design), HSBC, Yorkshire and, the worst, a dead-heat between Nationwide and FirstDirect.0 -
edit: screw that, open second Halifax Current Account, deposit the £20k, switch it to Santander. I think...0

What would be the purpose of the 2nd Halifax current account if all you want to do is switch it to Santander?0
