Why not open a variable rate websaver (or a similar savings account) instead? There's no credit check for this.
We've already got several web savers. The problem is I need to issue cheques from the funds. (It's a Direct Payments thing - they need a statement showing what's happening, so their funds need to be kept completely separate from our normal spending/bills etc monies, which also need me to make payments out from them!)0 -
Finally got my £100 from Alliance & Leicester for the account I switched in June.
After having been promised it would be paid on two different dates, and nothing happening, I phoned one last time to request it. I was transferred 6 times before anybody could "help", and was told there was no such bonus that I was entitled to on more than one occasion.
In the end it was logged as a complaint, and someone called me back today to apologise and let me know they were paying the £100 immediately plus £30 as a gesture of goodwill. I've had the £45 off quidco already, so £175 not a bad incentive....
However, having dealt with what is possibly the worst customer service system in the UK, I have no intention of having to call them again, so will swap again to First Direct.0 -
Right, long time lurker about to make my first post, what am I missing with the Lloyds TSB Classic Vantage Account? It says that accounts with over £5,000 receive a net interest (Monthly) of 3.14% which is at least £157. Surely this isn't right?!
I know it says you have to pay £1,000 in per month but I already have £1,000 going in then out of my halifax reward account so this wouldn't be any hassle, unless you have to keep it in there for more than a month?0 -

The £1,000 monthly funding only has to show its presence and can then be FP'd out straight away.0 -
There is lots of useful account switching and long term saving information on this site.
I would like you to help me to find the best place to deposit a redundancy cheque, where it can earn interest over a period of 12 to 14 months, while it 'drip feeds' a current account (by standing order) to pay the bills. I don't do online banking.0 -

Is this something you are prepared to compromise on? If it's a case of not knowing what to do, have you got someone you trust who could help you?0 -

I already have an ISA at Santander. Does this mean that I cannot get the £100 for switching a current account over to Santander? Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks,

Any advice please?
I work part time, earnings just over £9000.
I have an insurance payment of £10,000 and want to find an account with the best interest rate possible, I know it won't be very high.
I am under the earnings threshold for the best bonus deals for opening accounts, as far as I am aware, and don't want to be tied to a "one withdrawal a year" option, prefer to have access if needed with no penalties.
Can anyone advise please? I will have to withdraw £3,000 of it in around 3 months time but want it to stay in an account until then.0 -
Hello my dad is retired early he has not taken his pension yet. He does a little part time work keeping his earnings under the lower earnings threshold £476 per month. He currently banks with the Bank of Ireland but has recently grown more frustrated with their customer service.
He simply wants a bank account that he can use for day to day transactions with a debit card that can be viewed online. It would be good to have a credit card option too (although he pays this off every month) and has no debt on it.
What is the best account for him? The best bank section seems to be for people earning 11k or more or people with poor credit/overdraft issues.
Any help would be welcomed.
Many thanks0
