  • Re: Alliance & Leicester Premier Account paying 6% - get an extra £50!

As well as paying 6% on credit balances up to £2500 if you pay in £500 per month (it doesn't have to be 'salary', but includes any money, from any source, at any time throughout the month!) - if you're thinking of applying for this account, apply via TopCashBack's website, and you'll also get £50 cashback. (You'll need to register as a TopCashback user if you're not one already before clicking through to apply for the A&L bank account, then just search under the 'retailer name' to find the offer).
Sadly, I missed this (ARGH!!!), but hopefully others will be able to cash in on the offer!

Curious as to why the Lloyds Vantage Classic current account isn't listed in the top current accounts for people in credit?

They currently offer 4% on balances between £5-7k which obviously beats most savings accounts at the moment. The only catch is the minimum funding requirement of £1k/month, although as far as I know there are no underfunding fees.

    See here for more info:

A&L seem to pay really good interest but their branches are few and far between and even in the branch you are just directed to use the telephone banking system.

That might well change once they all turn into Santander though.

    ...........
Not if any of the other banks who've fallen under Santander are anything to go by. What you describe sounds just like Abbey.
and of course they'll all have plenty of branches when they are All the One Santander.

    Interesting comparison of banks here.

Not much more than personal reviews, but lot's of them & the 'favourites' seem quite apparent .

Compare by Clicking on each bank on the list down the Right hand side.

Last sunday I decided I would like to create a joint Halifax reward account so I went online and applied I got my account name straight away from my email however my fiancee got an email saying she would have to goto halifax.co.uk/online and enter our roll number, which she did, along with her dob & address, which she did also. However she never got her user-name even though the website said she would receive her user-name within 48hrs. Phoned Halifax they said they couldn't see her linked to the account, tried again till nothing. I don't know whether to phone up again, or try another bank. Has any1 else had this much trouble creating a joint account with Halifax? Does any1 know if A&L do joint accounts?
My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

I had a problem as halifax created a new customer profile for me when we opened our joint account. One call to their technical helpdesk had it sorted.

I switched both mine and my husband's accounts to Alliance and Leicester to get the incentive. Alliance and Leicester wrote to me to say my personal info didn't match and they couldn't switch the direct debits. I confirmed all info and contacted my current bank to ensure they allowed the dd's to be transferred. They told me no contact had been made by Alliance and Leicester. I queried this with Alliance and Leicester who said they would try again, I heard nothing for a few weeks and still my dd's were not transferred. When I called them again they said they had written to me and had not had a response (even though I'd called them) so they were not going ahead with the transfer of dd's. I was now out of time with the 12 week window to transfer dd's so would not get the £ incentive. There was no problem transferring my husbands dd's and he met all the criteria but after 12 weeks he received a letter saying as he had not met all of the criteria he would not be receiving the incentive. He spent the best part of an hour trying to get sense from customer services on the phone who could not clarify why the criteria had not been met. Eventually he left it that he wanted something in writing specifying why the criteria were not met. He then received a letter in the post saying the initial letter had been sent in error and they would look into whether the incentive was due. We are still waiting for a response. I can't help thinking they send out the letter to all new customers as a matter of course and hope that most people won't query or will give up talking to unhelpful staff on expensive phonecalls. Ggggrrrrrr - I have now closed my account with them and will close my husband's as soon as his incentive issue has been resolved.
  • Hi there,

I have a business account with Co-operative bank and NatWest.
The Co-operative one hasn't been used for a very long time - but it's there if needed - simply because of their rather poor on-line banking comparing to the NatWest one, but I must admit that I'm really tired of NatWest - their charges and rather not very helpful staff in the branch I'm with.

I was wondering if you have any experience with Co-operative bank and whether I should go fully with them - closing my NatWest account?

Your help would be much appreciated.

    Regards
