Servicing Stop - Worst Service Ever

  • Sorry, but in the world of car ownership there is servicing and then there are additional items. I have had a misunderstanding with Mercedes because of the wording of their service contract and they did update their website and terms because of my complaint which was accepted.

The additional items you are free to decline - that's why you call them but you can't reasonably stop the basic service that you have agreed to.

Depending on what is required £640 might quite reasonable - at main dealer prices. You then have the option of not doing the actions (and driving a faulty car and if it is under warranty that is not a good idea because of consequential problems, or may relate to road worthiness). You have the option of going to another garage and seeking a second opinion or a quote for the work, which may well be cheaper at an independent.

You haven't given us any information in your post to suggest that the dealer has acted inappropriately, whereas you have been unreasonable - tried to cancel a service when the work had been started - they clearly had worked on the car to come up with the fix list - and argued about paying for work that had been done that you had previously agreed to.

The only complaint you have is that I would guess that they had already replaced the bulb and as you refused to pay for it, they removed it and did not do the extra work of replacing a faulty bulb back - which is hardly deliberate damage, and if the bulb was faulty your car was no less roadworthy than it was before.

Anyway, you now understand why some people are dubious about owning a premium brand like BMW - servicing costs are also premium.

Obviously you one of the people who don't understand that if you own a good car you have to look after it, also I guess you also unaware that recent BMW's have a computer that tells you exactly what's wrong in the car, when it to fix it and obviously record all of that.

Any way ask yourself this: Why did Servicing Stop use “Best price guarantee-Find a better deal, we match it” slogan and still offer me £42+VAT to replace one dipped bulb when the H7 bulb cost £12 in BMW, Bosch 477H7 bulb cost £13 in Halfords and Halfords TV advertisement states the cost of fitting a Bulb is £12.

What actually happen is when I didn't accept to be taken for a foul they fused all the lights.
If you still think they are worthy then by all mean you use them. Me Never Ever Again.
I just want people to know what they getting themselves into and not just follow the fake good reviewers

Sorry but it's not very clear what you are saying they did to the lights. Did they actually damage them, take a fuse out, leave a bulb out?

I don't actually know what they did exactly, the BMW service guy they fused the lights. i.e oversupplied the bulbs so they burnt.
Any way I have 6 bulbs in the front (2 Dipped lights, 2 high beams and 2 Parking lights) one of the dipped bulb was off 2 days before the car went to servicing stop. when the car returned all 6 bulbs were off (not working) I checked the fuse and the fuse were ok

I've posted this before about Servicing Stop and similar sites. Why?!?! All you have to do is ask friends, family and colleagues for decent local garages. If you are pulled in by the collect and deliver service then more fool you. Garages on sites like these are generally average to poor garages with no work. Same with takeaways on Just Eat and HH. A decent takeaway is flat out during main hours and doesn't need the hassle of JE/HH taking 30% cut for a poxy website.

Let's say SS quote you £100 for a service. SS take 30%. That leaves £70. 2 blokes on minimum wage to collect and deliver you car - say 15 minutes drive from your house = 2 man hours = £15 excluding NIC/Pension/Fuel/Insurance Etc. That's £55 to service your car. Mechanic for at £10 an hour max for a service = £45 to service your car. Generic oil filter and bulk oil at say £15 = £30 left for everything else. Rent, business rates, electricity, owners wages etc. What do you think they have to do? They will price gouge on anything they can find and make up about your car. Brake pads and discs are bread and butter scams for a lot of unscrupulous garages.

You are absolutely Correct. I probably spend more by now than it would have cost in Halfords for example.
wish I read all of that before
  • If I had seen this forum before I used Servicingstop I would never have used them because I now have first hand experience of a cunningly advertised service which costs a lot more that you expect.
I was offered a 60% cheaper full service and MOT at £97.52 and £19.00 respectively. My car would be collected and returned afterwards. At about 4pm I received the dreaded call. My car had failed its MOT and needed 2 repairs at £104.27 and £195.34. I was told these had to be done. When I finally received it the MOT refusal document stated that one of these defects was major to be repaired immediately and the other minor to be repaired as soon as possible. Then I was told my car also needed specialist oil – another £28.80. I was told the brake fluid needed changing at an added £97.92. I queried the brake fluid change and said this was not wanted. I also asked about the brake fluid via email the evening before the work was to be done – no reply – they charged me for it anyway. I have a small KIA Picanto which they were aware of so I should have been advised the service was costlier. I have had this car from new and the cost of this service + special oil + brake fluid + MOT was higher that a major service by my KIA dealer who have serviced my car for 6 years and include all these fluids in the service price. I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE THINKING OF USING SERVICINGSTOP TO THINK AGAIN. You will have added unnecessary costs which are hard to reason with a slick adviser in a 5-minute conversation. I was unable to access details about the costs until I had paid the £500+ and if you don’t pay they tell you your car ‘will not be released’. If I can save even 1 person from being conned by these people then my post would have been successful. Good luck.

Agree that is outrageous for a Picanto. If that needs 'specialist oil' then what doesn't? I recently paid my local garage £37 for a brake fluid change on a BMW.

"ServicingStop" didn't work on your car. They never saw your car.

ServicingStop is just a website that puts you in touch with local garages, who pay to get customers referred.
It's that garage, and that garage alone, which tucked you up like a kipper...

  • Wow - wish I had seen this before I got my car serviced.
If you are thinking of using SERVICINGSTOP you may want to think again – BBC Watchdog Rogue Traders featured servicingstop last year and this can now be viewed on YouTube.
I googled 'servicingstop BBC rogue traders'
Looks like they are still at it and I am their latest victim!

A BMW doesn't need a main dealer or specialist to service it. Any decent garage can work on a BMW. They aren't anything special??!!
If it were a high end BMW like the 540i or M5 then you'd be better off going to a specialist. They are actually quite complicated machines

Servicing Stop states on its website that any complaint should be directed through them and if people contact the garage they will no longer be held accountable.
    It says:
‘ Any complaint with respect to any car service done by Servicing Stop Ltd must be restricted to communications with Servicing Stop Ltd only and not the garages. Servicing Stop Ltd will not be liable for resolving any mistakes, issues or problems unless all correspondence remains with Servicing Stop Ltd.’
