For leisure, it depends what sort of things you enjoy but there is an excellent zoo....

Really? Where is this zoo then? I've only seen some of the dodgier nightlife looking anything like a zoo.

Unless you mean he Costwold Wildlife Park.

I've heard that there is a massive rise in crime in/near Colchester. Is this true?
I've not heard this, although, same as a lot of places, I wouldn't want to hang around the town centre on a Saturday night.

It's always been a fairly lively town and with the garrison and the university there are quite a high number of short term/temporary residents.
I quite like the idea of Colchester being near the sea, close to ports to go on holiday to Europe. But Swindon does have an Ice Rink (would like to go to hockey matches and do some skating with the kids)
The nearest ice rink is in Chelmsford, Colchester has a roller skating rink (also Quasar laser tag at the same venue)
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

I did mean the Cotswold wildlife park. OK it isn't called a zoo, but it is in all but name.

I live in Colchester and not aware of this. The town centre is by no means a no go area in the evening, there are plenty of bars, restaurants and a cinema in the town centre and a bingo hall if that's your bag.

There has been housing development on the north and west of the town.

Chelmsford has an Ice Hockey team if that is something of interest to you.

Are you happy living there? Do you find things to do? Or do you wish you could relocate if funds allowed it to somewhere else?

Is there a difference in house prices? This could be a determining issue.
