    Sounds the likely scenario. I'm honestly not sure what to suggest. Has your partner spoken to his ex about it? Or don't they get along? You could try raising the paperwork again, but insisting that you keep copies of everything.

    How far up the bank hierarchy have you gone with this problem? I wonder what they would say if you partner suggested that the bank can pay it out of their bank account (or the individual that they are speaking to). You'd probably get a "well we didn't take the loan out did we" response...to which you could say "well, neither did I, but you're saying I have to pay for it".

    All this doesn't seem fair to me.
