On Dell and Toshibas laptops that I have seen you can disable it in the bios. On my Samsung not. Also you can go to the drivers and stop it there too.

Are you saying those changes are not reversible? If they're not then obviously that'll work, but the camera could never be used again, which seems overkill. And if they are reversible than why do you think the person doing the disabling would be the only person who could reverse it?

I'm in agreement with those saying teach them how to be safe on the internet, and also with Tarambor's view that this is something that is primarily the responsibility of parents.

“I'm in agreement with those saying teach them how to be safe on the internet, and also with Tarambor's view that this is something that is primarily the responsibility of parents.” This should be a quote, not sure why it isn’t

So am I! But they do not live in my household, their mother believes in fairies and thought it would be a good experiment to home school them “to see if I can”. (Both back in school after 3 terms as they were bored to tears). I’m doing my best to be remotely responsible (as in from afar).

I realise teens are eleventy million times more tech savvy than me, they teach me how to use my phone, do Instagram etc. But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try to prevent them seeing ‘stuff’ that can’t be unseen. I have to do my best for them.

By all means you should, but please don't feel bad or guilty if they find a way past any of the blocks you put in place.

If you really want to stop them doing it, ban the internet altogether. Sorted.
