If you're painting them then decorators caulk was invented for this very reason. Forget 2 part filler and all that fancy stuff, a £1 tube of decorators caulk is all you need.
Bodge job. Decorators caulk is not designed for filling screws holes in wood. It will be nearly impossible to get a smooth, flush finish and it cannot be sanded. The texture difference will also be obvious after painting. It's designed for filling small gaps where two surfaces meet.0 -
If you haven't already drilled the screw holes, then why not just adhere the skirting to the walls with gripfill? Then there's no need for drilling / filling.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Even if using gripfill it’s normal to pin the skirting using a nailgun or panel pins to keep it tight against the wall the adhesive goes off. Much smaller holes but they will still need filling.
Screws do have an advantage though, which is that it’s much easier to remove the skirting if necessary.0
