    Hello all,

I had my surgery yesterday - there were many tears beforehand - but I am home and have plenty of painkillers. I have a good few weeks where I need to take it easy and let my body get used to being an organ down. On the plus side I probably won't spend much money!

So, I have the estate agent coming to take the photos of my house tomorrow, dum dum dum. I have decided to go for the tiny cottage in the shire. I just need to hope mine is sold stc in time for me to put an offer in, although Victorian terraces move quite quickly here. My friend was an absolute star and came and gave the kitchen a lick of paint whilst I was having surgery yesterday, I'm so lucky with my wonderful friends :)

Right time to get some more meds and try to walk out the co2 - they use it to blow up your abdomen so they can get to everything. Pretty fascinating really.

Hey Runders, first of all glad to hear your surgery seems to have gone alright - hope you have a speedy recovery :heart2:

And a cottage in the shire sounds absolutely wonderful :heart2: I don't think having guests sleeping in the living room is a big deal at all, and the way you describe the house sounds so lovely. Fingers crossed you find a buyer for your property quickly x

    Hello everyone!

Still house bound, I am such an impatient patient! Still sore, it can feel like there are tiny ninjas stabbing and stinging you in 4 different places. However, I can already feel that the constant shoulder pain I had before hand is gone. Now if the rest of it could sod off that would be lovely!

So my house went on the market and within 24 hours it had 11 viewings. We are already going to best offers because it was popular - eeeekkkkkk! I still can't believe I am doing this - I swear I've gone off the rails! haha. Fingers crossed I get some good offers because of all the interest. I also really hope that if I do I can secure the cottage in the shire. - I am sure you are meant to take it easy after surgery right?!?

    Hi Runders,

Glad the surgery went well and exciting news on the house!! Fingers crossed it all works out for you, its the most stressful thing to do, selling your house on the promise of only one that you like. Hope it all works out, it does sound very promising with all of the viewings!

    Hi all,

Thank you so much for all the supportive comments re the house. It didn't all work out :( The cottage I wanted went to best and final offers between two of us, and although my offer was better they went with the person who had their deposit in the bank and not tied up in a house - GUTTED I had achieved an amazing offer on my house too, but had to withdraw it 2 days later as the person was really keen to move and I didn't want to keep them hanging whilst I tried to find something else. Also, I fretted that by moving to the shire I would be tyng myself to the offshore wage forever as the mortgage would double. My job is well paid and used to be so much fun, but 10 years on ships has taken it's toll.

So I've been a mixture of regret, what-ifs and should-haves since. I am feeling trapped both in my current areas of the country and my job. There was another house in the shire I had originally discounted, but now I am starting to think it would have actually been a better option - too late now as I have no buyer for mine anymore.

I think I need to take a week to clear my head and figure out if moving to the Shire now is worth the sacrifice of staying offshore for the foreseeable. Or if I stay here for another 6 months to a year and go into my office to get Project Management skills that I can then hopefully transfer over to another sector and get a different job once in the shire. I am cursing myself for staying offshore for so long and trapping myself into a niche career role. However, I know now that for my mental health alone I need to change something and there are no more excuses.

    Pfft - I need to get a grip don't I!!!!

Okay so onto a more money-saving theme:

Due to being laid up after my op I have hardly spent any money this month and managed to save £1500 :) I have a target going forward of trying to save £1000 a month whilst I am on my offshore wage. I need to make more use of my NT membership etc for free days out.

Also I am on an offset tracker mortgage, so have been affected by the interest rate rise. However, I have also paid some chunks off my mortgage this year (it makes me feel better) and so instead of my payment going up with the rate rise, it's actually going down by £15. I plan on just continuing to pay that £15 off the mortgage each month.

Just got to keep chipping away at it.

    Hi Runders,

I'm really sorry to hear that it fell through, but at the same time it sounds like a bit of time to contemplate your different options is no bad thing. It also sounds like you had lots of interest for your house, so that's really good to know because in case you do decide to move, it looks like you'd be able to find a buyer quite quickly.

Also, it's never to late to change careers! There's probably lots of transferable skills you already have from your job, although project management skills will no doubt come in useful as well.

I know it sounds a bit stupid, bit maybe this one wasn't meant to be, and something better is just around the corner x

Sorry to hear that, Runders. Have to say every time a house purchase has fallen through on me something better has come along a bit later. Fingers crossed it does for you too.

Have changed career a couple of times. It's always been nerve wracking but worth it. I look back and think I'd be a much duller person if I hadn't done different things. Project Management sounds really interesting. Know someone who did some courses to try and swap careers to do that and she was really enjoying it.
