I have been looking at a 66 registered car at a dealer, the GOV site says that it is not taxed ( as expected) but the tax is due July 2017.
Can anyone suggest why it has not been taxed for so long?

It may have been sitting on the forecourt for that long?

thank you, I thought it odd that it would have been in a dealers stock for so long.
Not many are sold with an automatic, so maybe noone else wants it :-)

The spec is just what I have been looking for, so Ill go and have a look at it.

As other's have said, that date would have been when the previous owner disposed of it and it hasn't been renewed by the garage.

So nothing necessarily sinister about being in stock for 6 months?

Have had company cars for 20 years so not used to car buying.

Not sinister but ensure its a decent price if its not shifted in 6 months.

Thanks Custardy, it is at the low end of prices compared with others and a couple of online price check sites.

Check that its not been damaged/repaired - that can take a car off the road for a while.

I would be wondering if it was damaged and its taken this long to repair.

Fairly new car still for sale 6 months later = buyer beware.

I hope you know howto check for accident damage.

Will check panel gaps are even and lines straight, look for paint overspray etc. I have seen wheeler dealers check under the carpet in the boot :-)

Not sure about resprayed panels, at least I couldn't really see after my car had a door repaired.

Dealer says it has not been in an accident and has had HPI check.

Is it worth getting my own HPI type check done?
