I live in a large 5-6 bed house is birmingham(semi detached very large windows and 1960.

I have a new boiler system(vaillant a best) and weather compensation controls.

We are always in the house due to annueal leave and my wife on meternity.

We have been using 106kwh a day in gas? This is too much?

This question is like "How long is a piece of string" as no one can give you a correct answer.
Also this same question has been discussed in the past 2 weeks so please just go down the forum on the first 3 pages and you will find that discussion.
Which comes up with the answer I gave at the start.

I was using that a couple of years ago, now I have made improvements to the insulation and use less, about 70-80 kWh a day..
3 bed house with heating on from 7:45 to 22:30
over 73 but not over the hill.

£28 a week is hardly excessive, given that the house is large, possibly poorly insulated, the heating is on all day, and December was a very cold month.
What matters is your annual consumption, not a 4 week snapshot.

Another thread of 'mine is less than yours'. This is a pointless discussion. Typical domestic energy consumption figures are available here:

Probably not - have you been recording regular meter readings over a long period, or just over Xmas.

Everyone's consumption will be different, even in identical houses because we all have different lifestyles, diffent ideas about whats comfortable, which rooms you are heating and when and what sort of controls you've got. Insulation will also make a big difference, have you got double glazing, how thick is your loft insulation and are your walls insulated. Even the thickness of curtains and carpet will add another variable as do the number of people in the house and how active they are.

The biggest effect that you can't do much about is the weather. Our outside temperatures have varied between about -6 and+12 from day to day over the holiday and that makes a big difference to how much heat you require.

We are all electric and I've been monitoring my consumption weekly for the past seven years so it's really easy to get some idea of how the weather & our lifestyle changes our consumption and this December we've used nearly 20% more than our average although in 2013 we used 40% more. Some days it looks horrendous when the heating unit is flogging it's heart out.

106 kwh is £3 a day - good value for money.
