Invest £1 and get the Which report on oil boilers

Good tip will do, thanks Cardew
I am still interested in people's personal expreiences as well.
I am looking to replace my electric boiler with an oil one or maybe lpg.0 -
We had a new Grant External oil combi boiler fitted last summer. We would highly recommend it. My parents already have a Grant external boiler (fitted around 6 years) and haven't had any issues. We went for the same option as if you have the space then in my opinion it's much preferable to an internal boiler.
For oil, the two recommended by Which are Grant and Worcester Bosch. Worcester Bosch get excellent reviews but are more expensive than Grant.
It also helps that we know two local heating engineers who are Grant specialists, if we have any issues.Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840 -
Another vote for Grant. One had recently been fitted when I bought my current house and it has been trouble free for the past ten years. The engineer/plumber whose services I use speaks very well of them and says parts availability and general reliability are high.0

@A. Badger @kkgree1
Thanks for the replies.
If you do not mind, would share the cost with me ?
I had 2 quotes so far for installing an external oil boiler, tank and doing the pipework. Both around £6600.0 -

Sorry, as I said, mine was installed just before I bought the house, so I have no idea what it cost. I think the usual advice - 'get several quotes' applies.
Good luck.0 -
Another suggestion to get several quotes. We paid £4400 to have our new boiler fitted but the 3 quotes we got ranged from £4400 - £6200.
The previous summer we paid just under £1000 to have a new Oil tank fitted.
So with all new pipework your quotes look reasonable but always best to get 3 quotes.Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840 -
Base and pipework too but we paid our heating engineer to do as an evening job. He said it would be several hundred pounds extra to do as a daytime job so £2300 maybe is a little overpriced. Depends on the tank though as we were able to have a steel tank where as the plastic bunded tanks are more expensive I believe.Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840
