MOT Advisory Fiesta

Hi All
Just had an MOT done on my 58 plate fiesta. 65,000 miles on the clock
The car failed due to the two front tyres being below the legal tread, I have booked this into a neighboring tyre warehouse to replace both tyres first thing tomorrow morning.
I also had advisories reading:
"nearside front Road wheel with a slightly distorted bead rim "
"offside front Road wheel with a slightly distorted bead rim "
Which i'm guessing is why the front tyres are worn?
We're in the middle of moving house so i'm not able to get the advisories seen to until at least March.
Can anyone advise as to how much I would expect to pay to correct this? The mechanic suggested switching the front and back wheels, but am I, right in thinking this is just masking the problem? Would I be better off forking out a bit more and getting the two wheels actually replaced?
Forgive me for sounding ignorant, but I used to have a family friend who ran an independent garage who has unfortunately retired, and after a hellish experience with my last car at a different garage I'm very apprehensive about how to go about getting work organized as I got totally ripped off last time.
Many thanks in advance

Get two second hand wheels possibly with tyres from Ebay or another. Replace the tyres if necessary, get the tracking checked / adjusted once you have replaced the wheels.0

How long have the tyres been on? It maybe a case of they’ve just worn out through use.
It could be the tracking is out.
The wheels could be distorted through pot holes or kerbing.
Are they steel or alloy wheels.
If they are 16 alloys it’s British roads.0 -

Unfortunately, they are alloys, and I live in a place where the council is very slow to sort out their roads! So that must be why!
The lady I bought the car off said to me that she had replaced a couple of tyres prior to me purchasing the car last February, but I can't remember which tyres they were. So I know definitely 2 of the tyres have been on just under a year, i'm just not sure which ones. Embarrassingly I don't even know if that is a normal amount of time for tyres to last or not!0 -
Nice and simple fail, Judging by the VRM its an early MK7 Fiesta?
You can tell whats the newest tyres by looking up the DOT date on the tyre walls.
How come you went to a neighbouring garage to get the tyres? Do the garage themselves not have any fitting tooling and suppliers?
Because of this you may have to pay for a re-test as the car had left the site. Some garages are not like this, Its just a matter of reading up on the T&C of the MOT what they offer and be organised for its next annual test.
If you feel you get ripped off there's some easy checks you can do yourself pre-mot to ensure the car doesn't fail on some simple things in the future.0 -

September 08 maybe a late 6.0 -

The mechanic at the garage actually recommended I went to the tyre warehouse down the road to get the tyres fitted (I probably shouldn't have called that a garage in my previous post sorry), I'm guessing the garage I had the MOT done would have had to have ordered the tyres in and therefore delay the re-test happening? I'm not entirely sure.
As it happens i'm getting the tyres replaced this afternoon and it's going back to the garage first thing tomorrow to get a re-test done. Going by Direct Gov website, I'm thinking I might not need to pay again for a retest?
"Taking it back for a retest the next working day
You won’t have to pay again if you take it back to the same test centre before the end of the next working day for a partial retest on one or more of these items:" It then lists Tyres and Wheels as one of the items.
"Taking it back for a retest within 10 working days
You’ll only need a partial retest if you take the vehicle from the test centre for repairs and take it back within 10 working days. You can be charged a partial retest fee for this."0 -
Oh and It's an early MK 70

Thank the nice tester - he just saved you from three points and a fine. Oh, and make a mental note to start checking your tyres more often!I have booked this into a neighboring tyre warehouse to replace both tyres first thing tomorrow morning.

"nearside front Road wheel with a slightly distorted bead rim "
"offside front Road wheel with a slightly distorted bead rim "
An advisory is something that's passed, but which the tester thinks you should know about.
Did they say in what way the bead was "slightly distorted"? Flat-spotted, or just the lip bent slightly?
Steel or alloy?Which i'm guessing is why the front tyres are worn?
How were they worn? Evenly, or one side worse than the other? Does somebody park by feel...?
If you're not feeling any vibration, then leave 'em.
If the tyres aren't wearing evenly, get the tracking sorted.Would I be better off forking out a bit more and getting the two wheels actually replaced?0 -

You don't have a single morning or afternoon free until March??? Are you for real?0 -

Unlikely to be the cause, but may be the same symptom.

If they're steels, then ten minutes with a big hammer. Seriously... Steel wheels bend back to shape surprisingly evenly. Alloys don't - they crack.
The OPs said they were alloys so no need for the hammer.0
