i'd personally always pay 10% more to buy at a local shop just for that reason alone, and that i've been stung in the past by crappy service from online retailers
That's a fair point; I bought it from Dixons online (they must have had a promotion!), their shops will service 'net purchases (according to https://www.dixons.co.uk, anyway).

Anyone know of better price for the Canon Ixus 700 than £250.00 delivered?
I changed my mind from the Ixus 50 as there is a few extra features on this and a bit better in the hand as a bit bigger and heavier than the Ixus 50. Seems the 50 is great for those wanting a very small camera though as picture quality is ace but I personally worry that I would drop it as it is so light! Only thing that I prefer on the 50 I think is the metal round dial on the back, Canon should have carried this over to the 700 I reckon!

marvin wrote:They do not price match on insurence vouchers (it says so on the voucher or letter IIRC) they have no need to they already have your business as you can't spen those vouchers any where else. But then, if you don't tell them you have insurence vouchers they ring it up and you hand over vouchers what they gonna do?
Tell you that you can't have the discount I expect, they have you by the b***s!

I worked for Jessops until April 2003. I assume that the price match policy won't have changed much since then. Anyway, how it used to work was that if we, in the store, could verify that a retailer within 20 miles of our store had identical stock and was selling it for a cheaper price, we could match it on the spot even if we were making a loss. There was also a retrospective 7 or 14 day (I forget which) 'refund the difference' guarantee in this case.
For online sales, or any kind of mail order from a retailer 20+ miles away, we could phone up head office and get authorisation. They would generally give it right down to the item's cost price (or cost price plus whatever they thought necessary to cover overheads), at which point they'd refuse to match but give us a best offer to take back to the customer. If the stock was non-EU then they'd refuse, and they refused to match any retailer not based in the UK; I always thought this was because they either pay no VAT (e.g. 7dayshop) or different rates. In that case, though the item may be the same, the nature of the transaction isn't.
As for the vouchers, well- if what the OP says is correct and the insurance company simply pays Jessops 80% of the face value it seems entirely reasonable to me that they should then refuse to price match- if they match down to cost and then you pay with vouchers, they're making a 20% loss overall, which would be a bit daft in all honesty. At the end of the day the insurance compnay is only obliged to give you a like for like (or equivalent) replacement for your goods; it's easier all round to offer vouchers to the items value and it offers the customer more flexibility. If you end up managing to get a better item out of it then you're lucky, but it's not something you're entitled to.0 -
Just got my Canon g6 Priced at £450 in Jessops for £381.50 not bad! could have got it off amazon for £352 so they wouldn't price match that low! Managed to get a discount off a case and the 3 year warrenty though, so all in all about £18 more than amazon but got it today (baby due last saturday!) and its easy to take it back should there be a problem. Thanks guys! Shame they didn't have the memory card in stock as they were willing to price match that as well!

EmpireDirect's online store head office is in Leeds. So if I went to Jessops in Leeds would they price match EmpireDirect?

I once asked for a price match on a Canon EOS-300D which was on a £100 cashback at the time. Warehouse Express had a genuine UK model for (I think) £499, Jessops had it on the shelf for £649. She called the head office and said "No we can't match that but we can do it for £649"
