Help how do I avoid Vodafone penalties?

My contract end date is the 13th January. I gave notice to leave in November but discovered in December they had a record of my call but nothing about me giving notice!
On the 15th December I gave notice and requested my PAC code via web chat. On the web chat they confirmed my contract ends 13th Jan. And provided me with a PAC code which also expires on the 13th Jan. Am I safe to ask a new provider to transfer my phone number on the 13th or will Vodafone charge me a penalty for terminating on the actual contract end date and/or not giving a full 30 days notice?

Why wait until the 13th to move??

  • I find that phone calls to Vodafone can be way more productive than web chat. You can cancel now, I would go ahead and ask new provider to take over number.

Even if Vodafone renew your contract without your permission you will still have 14 day cancellation policy to protect you whatever the case may be.

Pls give Vodafone a phone call and state that you want it cancelled as soon as it ends on 13th. Any issues just say you are not happy and will take this to the telecoms ombudsman. That should get them moving

God, what appalling "advice". Firstly, you cannot give notice AND obtain a PAC. Obtaining the PAC cancelled the notice so you'd have to start again with another 30 days. Second, if you have a PAC don't waiut until the last minute to exercise it. If it runs beyond 30 days for any reason it will expire and the contract will continue uninterrupted. You will then have to start again with either 30 day's notice to terminate it or another PAC.

The contract didn't "end" and it won't until you take positive and clear action. It also didn't "renew" and even if it had been "upgraded" there is no right to any cancellation period unless specifically in Vodafone's t&c (I haven't checked but given the quality of other recommendations I wouldn't rely on it without checking first; there should also be no need or relevance since Vodafone can't "upgrade" automatically and so would immediately be in violation of any new contract if they had, regardless of timescale).

Where the heck have you got this 14 day cancellation policy from?

You shouldn't recommend anyone to take a matter to the ombudsman unless the network has breached the contract, you're just wasting everyone's time.
