The same "luck" which means that your entitlement to compensation is zero. You won't get anything for inconvenience and "distress"2.) The event did happen, it was just luck that no one was injured.

You're getting a new unit so, effectively, you've had two and a half years of use of a £600 fridge for £150. That is an extremely good deal.
Do you have insurance cover for your fridge contents? Worth looking at your home contents policy.
And, as others have confirmed, you don't get compensated for distress, upset or what might have happened.0 -

I would hate this to happen to someone else where they didn't have the luck we had. If indeed a kitchen unit falling off the wall and not flattening anyone is deemed as such.0 -

Trading Standards don't deal with individual complaints. You have no evidence that the company concerned provide wide scale "dodgy workmanship"0 -

That is not my motivation in considering contacting them. Genuinely I'm concerned how such a unit was attached to the wall in the first place. Basically it pretty much came down on its own weight. Very little was stored in them and nowt with any weight. People I have spoken too say they should be strong enough that an adult can hang off them.0 -

If the expected life is only 6 years then £150 for 2 1/2 years is an even better deal. Were they to offer you a refund on the original then they can reduce it to reflect the use you have had and, with an expected life of only 6 years, they wouldn't offer you anywhere close to £450 - probably £250 max.0 -

He said the expected life was around 10 years beyond which they become unviable to repair. From 6 years they start getting faults that are repairable.
But mine is a complete write off at 2 and a half. I'm not feeling I've had a hot deal for £750 for something that should have lasted a hell of a lot longer.0 -
