I'm another that would have paid off the lower debt just to have it out of the way - it's just the way that my brain works!
Ultimately, you've made the decision that will save you the most in interest so that's the best thing for you. It won't be long until you get shot of them at the rate you're going!

I couldn't stay away for a whole week! I miss you guys
Hope you're all having a nice weekend, there's been a little flurry of snow here but nothing to worry about. Just a quick update from me this morning. Since Thursday there has been a development!
I hade made some ramblings earlier in the thread about buying a more economical car and offsetting my fuel use over the summer. So Mrs fatrab and I had a chat about the current financial situation, as she is going back to work (part-time) at the beginning of April she is going to need a car for certain aspects of her job (which she will receive mileage allowance for but nothing else). Well, a little car has turned up, £30/year tax, up to 70mpg and £256/year insurance for both of us on business use. And the good thing about it from my side of things is that Mrs fatrab is paying for it! (Although we work well as a couple we keep our finances separate at the moment, this may change soon as the financial association she has with her mother may be coming to an end in the near future)
We're going to car swap. I'll run the economical car over the summer then when the weather gets bad I'll go back to my own car. Basically the way I see it, at least 7 months of the year I'll be saving £150+ per month on fuel alone. My mission to offset the HMRC bill will be achieved!
Mrs fatrab will of course need to use the less economical car but it's only a 4 mile round trip (3 days per week), anything else above that she gets 45p/mile which will more than cover the fuel.
So I'm looking forward to putting this part of the plan into action, we collect the car on Thursday and I'm back at work the following Monday. Fingers crossed it works out as planned!
Had NSD's Friday and yesterday but today will be a big spend day. Shopping for 5 days' food, need more paint for the kitchen plus I'm going to have to buy a pair of jeans. Although I am losing weight I think I may have previously weakened the bottom area of one pair, as I heard a ripping noise during a bending related incident through the week!
And on that note, I'm seriously hitting the diet this week too! I want to be 15st 7 lbs by end of April and under 15 by end of June. I've lost another pound this morning but as it's not an official weigh in (I stayed the same weight AGAIN this week) I'm not updating my signature. Official weigh in will be Friday so I'll pop in then and let you know how I get on.
Have a great week!

Brilliant news on the car front - especially as it will help you meet your targets.
Sad news on the jeans :rotfl: but great news on the weight loss :T:T
I was moaning about my weight yesterday, and now I have spending more or less under control I'm going to concentrate on that.
Will follow you for motivation - so keep going - well done.:)

Hi Rab,
I'm finally getting around to posting in your diary, even though I have been reading it before now.
I said it elsewhere, as you know, but I'll say it again; you've got a great attitude and approach to dealing with your debt and your weight, and it's been incredibly motivating for me. I'm at the very beginning of my journey to bust the debt but I got started because of your thread, so thankyou.
That's some great news about the car sale and the imminent arrival of a new one. Well done for finding a solution!

Hi LBW.,
Thanks for stopping by! I'm really glad my rants and ramblings have helped. I never thought for one minute I'd have that effect on anyone.
I'll be keeping up with your diary too mate so I'm looking forward to seeing how we both get on!
I do wish you the very best, both with your debt journey and especially with your health! Great news that you cleared CC1 today, keep the momentum going. It's contagious!
Cheers!

On Monday I took the gamble that the worst of the weather must be past and refitted the summer tyres to the car. I knew I wasn't going to refit the winter tyres again next winter (I'm going to fit all weather tyres when the time comes) so I stuck them up on a Fbook page and they sold last night! £200 I wasn't expecting so that's gone straight into the bank. It's payday on Monday so I'll add that to whatever surplus I have this month and throw it all at the debt.
Also the little car arrived a day early and seems to be exactly as described so very happy with it. £30/year tax and up to 76mpg. Currently averaging 60 so I can better that!
Will update again later in the week. I have a story about my eldest son and a dodgy landlord that I'm sure you'll love to hear......
Take care,
