I hope the mess is minimal silva.
A bit of mending of my garden gloves to solve a poky through thumb problem.0 -
Fuddle - so do I but with two rooms to do and coving g and artex being removed I don't think there's much chance
Had a call today to say my tiles have arrived so now need to coordinate with DS2 when he can do them.........before Christmas I hope!
Good girl for mending your glove - I've started buying the packs of the rubber coated work gloves in a small size - same as they sell in the garden centres just not pretty colours - usually grey & black and 3 pairs for less than the price of 1!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
DND glad it sounds like you had a pleasant and uneventful journey to the UK, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for you in your job hunt!
Silva, good luck with the plastering, hope they will be in and out quickly and that the dust isn't too intrusive!
Make do - food from freezer and my box of 'random stuff we wouldn't normally use', that i am trying to use up. OH has gone to visit a friend for a few days, so i am free to eat some fairly odd combinations of things he would turn his nose up at (nothing has been actually inedible yet :rotfl:) and took some tinned things round to parents' this morning as they are more likely to use them.
Mend - a few hand-sewing sewing bits done (a couple of small holes sewn up in a top and trousers of mine, a button that fell off in the wash reattached to OH's trousers). New locks fitted to two doors that have needed doing for a while, our boiler and washing machine both fixed, and continuing on with the seemingly endless painting and decorating. I have cleaned, sanded, cleaned again and primed woodwork and radiators in the kitchen and cloakroom ready to start gloss painting tomorrow. I have never painted with gloss before, and apparently i need to leave 16 hours between coats!! so it will be a lengthy process! Still, hopefully plenty of other things will be getting done while i am waiting for the first coat to dry.
Another 'mend' currently ongoing - our long-term guest (a friend of OH's who stayed with us for over a year) has moved out and i am enjoying returning our spare room to a usable state. I have stripped the bed and been hot-washing all the bedding, washing pillows, and will take the duvet to the laundrette on Monday. Giving the room a thorough clean and preparing to re-paint will be on my list for while the gloss is drying!
Minimise - other than OH to a different country :rotfl:The second of our huge sofas departed last weekend, sold on ebay, and our lounge now looks improbably huge with so little furniture in it! I've listed another couple of bits of clothes/furniture on eb*y, and sorted yet more things into the 'to be listed' pile. Also photographed some kitchen stuff OH and i agreed we didn't need so i could offer them to friends via fbook, then dropped off some of the plates with a friend this morning - more things will go to people who've said they want them over the next few days when i am out and about. I think makeup and cds need to be next minimising-wise, as i still have loads of both and rarely use either any more! I find things that i know i can't reasonably sell/pass on (such as makeup) very hard to part with, as it would have to just go in the bin and it feels wasteful, but i've used maybe 4 things from the (full) drawer in the past year. As we will be putting anything we choose to keep in storage when we move, this is a good opportunity for me to convince myself that keeping unnecessary things 'just in case' is actually going to be more wasteful than getting rid.
Happy MMMing everyone, hope you are all having a nice weekendxx

I am hoping that you don't mind me joining in - I have really enjoyed reading back through the thread. It is great to find other people following the same path as me, and sharing ideas too.
This weekend has been full of MMMs for me:
Make Do: eating mainly leftovers brought home from a work retirement party on Friday, plus store cupboard and garden.
Mend: Darned DH's woolly jumper which had been relegated to the gardening pile - now as good as new. Mended 2 of DD's T-shirts, one of mine, and knickers too. Mended and patched a pillow case and a duvet cover acquired for free for DD to take to university.
Minimize: Took 3 bags to CS and only came back with one jumper (it was a bargain, hardly worn!)
I have a huge pile of jeans from DH and DS1, some to rip up for patches, and some to mend - I want to try out sashiko-style embroidery, but those will have to wait for a bit.0 -
Well 3 days of plastering has finished! I damp dusted ....and did it again, and again sigh and it needs doing again
Tiles arriving tomorrow and that's going to be another dusty job - ah well hopefully it will be over by Christmas.......and then we start the kitchen.
Dinner tonight is potato cakes with the leftover mash, swede and cabbage from yesterday with bacon, eggs and beans. Will do a 'proper' meal tomorrow.
No mending - just dusting..........lolSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Welcome MrsPoyser. This is a lovely group and I find that it keeps me focused on only buying what I need.
So, some good news today, I have a job for the next 5 weeks :j
I really don't know how our esteemed politicians (all parties voted it through) over the last 10 years expect us 50's born women to get back out into the workplace. I'm only looking for temp work but it's taken months! So the only thing I've been minimising is my bank account! (rant over)
No making do at the moment as I needed a lot of new clothing and makeup - most of what I had were vintage or at least 15 years old, taken out to France with me and either used in the fields there (clothing) or not at all (makeup). However using the principles from here, I have been very thoughtful about what I've bought and justified it all
Mend - my sister's garden. I'm staying with her and she's had back and knee problems so I'm finishing off some projects she had started and digging out and getting groundcover and gravel down before it gets too wet.Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget
FASHION ON THE RATION - 2024 62/66 coupons : 2025 36/66 coupons0 -
Well done on the job front DnD. Hopefully it will lead to something permanent for you. I've always seemed to find it's easier to get a job when you are working than when you are unemployed. At least it will get you back in the swing and temping is a good way to find out who you don't want to work for! Hope all goes well xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Congratulations on the job dND :T
Got a pile of clothes that need mended, mostly buttons to be sewn back on but cannot find my needle and thread anywhere. It must be somewhere in the flat but where I don't know.
Started a bag to go to the CS which contains some of OH's clothes, will have a look through mine. Put on some leggings this morning and just thought no, they're totally past it so will be turned into a draught excluder. Must remember to save up the papers instead of recycling them.
On a late shift today at work so popping round to my grans shortly for lunch and a catchup. I've got leftover cauliflower cheese to take into work for tea. Tomorrow's tea will involve peppers, mushrooms and courgettes as there's some at the bottom of the fridge needing used up.
