Mea Culpa - my sitting room has beige carpet and suite ........but beige and charcoal grey striped curtains and red cushions and middle eastern throws with a large charcoal vase with huge red sunflower type flowers and a red cast teapot on the hearth of the woodburner! In the summer I change the accessories to blue ;)
I cant stand beige as a clothing colour though but it doesnt suit me anyway lol

Pleads guilty to beige carpet - and I've got white walls too.

When I said that my automatic reaction to a house is to do it that way the other day the comment back was "How English!". Well - yes....it's my definition of = comfort underfoot and easy to live with. I can always add colour with accessories and in fact one of my sofas is a cheery warm red and the other has some red cushions on it.

On a different tack - re "solidarity with sisters" - that depends if they're being fair or no imo. Where they are being unfair to other people that happen to be men = I'll break ranks and say they're being unfair. I will treat people as people first and foremost - be they male or female and expect the same in return. Unfairness by either gender isn't something I believe in keeping quiet about.

EDIT; I've been pondering my replacement trenchcoat raincost this morning and wondering whether I should have a beige one (rather than black or navy) - as it would be the only beige item I'd have in my whole wardrobe and might be a contrast to the other colours I wear. I've just decided I'll have to have 2 raincoats - the trenchcoat style I personally find very useful/always have and the parka style one that the vast majority of women in this area wear. Though I'm not at all sure how much wear I'll get from my trenchcoat now I'm living here (compared to the loadsa wear I normally have, trans. used to have).

I do something similar in my Homes. I Keep the basics and the big ticket items neutral and then ring the changes each season with accessories, artwork, plants and flowers.

I was only thinking about my lounge a few minutes ago.

I inherited coffee coloured walls. At first I wasnt keen, they seemed dark but all my family like them and they have grown on me.

Currently my accessories are autumnal shades, purple, mustard, deep greens and bronzes. There is a multi coloured Turkish carpet (£15 from a chazzer and it's gorgeous) on top of laminate flooring, again inherited from the previous owner. Now of course I have added Christmas reds, golds and silver into the mix

I will be decorating at some point after I have sorted out the fireplace but that won't be until August time. Not sure what colour I will paint the walls yet. In the meantime I have been planning my "Spring Collection" :rotfl: using the coffee coloured walls and my existing grey tweed sofas.

I have a new pale grey rug, I will be removing some of the dark pine furniture (it's surplus to requirements and makes the room look small and cluttered). Then I will replace the hideous light fitting for something simple, buy some nice art and then replace the cushions and throws with something lighter and more summery. Although I love blues for summer I don't think they will work with the coffee walls so I was thinking creams and soft mossy sage greens. I already have a throw in those colours knocking around so a few cushion covers won't break the bank. I might even make some.

Then some nice new green plants and cream/white flowers. It should lift the scheme nicely and, as a temporary measure, it will cost peanuts.

It will look like a new room and yet it will cost next to nothing.
  • My whole house is beige/white,:o:eek: I'm a minimalist and I prefer it that way, very uncluttered. I do have dark red curtains, though.

    I really love red.:A
I think it is sad that women spend so much time judging each other, live and let live. Solidarity with the sisters.

Yeah, I do usually slag off men a lot more.:D I've always known a lot more men than women, apart from at school. I went to a convent school, lol.

    I’m becoming more minimalist. :D
  • I've been thinking of a very pale grey and pink colour scheme. So pale grey carpet and sofas with pale pink curtains and cushions. I think it would be soothing but maybe too bland.

I think it would be lovely. But maybe just a add third accent colour. Just a little pop here and there to lift the scheme and add a bit of zing.

I'm quite into shocking pink at the moment, maybe I should do shocking pink cushions or I could look for curtains with a mixture of shocking and pale pink. Something to think of in the new year.

My DD has a beige carpet, it was in the house when they bought it and was virtually new and nice quality so they were happy with it. She has peacock blue as her feature colour which I love but don't want to copy.

My bungalow has all-white walls except for a feature wall in an old-fashioned taupe paper. The rest is grey, chrome or black. We have no carpets at all. We have engineered oak flooring all through apart from the kitchen and bathroom which have vinyl flooring in grey, and the conservatory which has silver grey laminate. The sitting room has a large rug in a taupe chevron pattern and similar cushions.

We only have one set of curtains, in the back bedroom, they are the William Morris by Sanderson ones that my husband got for £4 from a charity shop. All the other windows have either roller or vertical blinds in cream or grey.

Sounds boring and drab, but actually looks stylish. (ETA: We do have loads of original artwork to give colour).

This is the pattern of my curtains: https://www.artsandcraftsliving.co.uk/images/thumbnails/734/966/detailed/6/0660.jpg

I also have a William Morris tablecloth in this pattern:https://www.wipeeasytablecloths.com/wipe-clean-tablecloth-willow-bough.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAr93gBRDSARIsADvHiOq5_BWbcIjTnanRoPViEkKrKOGdMMu7Ln3RoxCrpGb1_2htLDktwCEaAn92EALw_wcB
